Living our dream,

 traveling the world!

Florianopolis, Brazil #39

      September 12,

We were up and about by 0700, readied and had our Javas with a light breakfast of toast with jam and yogurt. I started blogging and Jeff read. Then like that, it was time for lunch. We made a Greek salad and put it in the fridge – it was a back up.

We headed out, knowing what we wanted if it was open…It was!!! The place, called O Mestre Churrasqueiro, which translated as “Teacher BBQ”. It’s only open Sat, Sun, and Holidays. The smoker was going and smelled great. We had seen it last weekend and was so happy to see it was open. As a matter of fact we were so excited that we had both left our place without our phone to aid in translating! Thankfully the wait staff was two young girls and they pulled out their phone, opening up the translation. We picked out a section of two beef ribs, about 1.25 pounds; and about the ¾ pounds of pork ribs – taking the last of the pork ribs for the day!(the guy in line behind us was not happy) Oopsie!! We also bought some Brazilian vinegar salsa. They packaged everything up and we went back to our place, thankfully the drive wasn’t far…because it smelled so good!

We made it in and within minutes we were eating like starved people! It was so good and the two meats had different rubs that enhanced each so well. Also the meat was so tender the ribs just fell out. We did restrain ourselves – some, at least not eating it all!! It was a total carnivore lunch (with a Portuguese wine), but wowza! We then finished the blog. We did have the Greek salad for supper and called it a glorious day.

      September 13,

We awoke to a very cloud covered morning, but only 10% chance of rain all day. We readied and went out to the grocery store. When we returned, we had our Javas as we talked on WhatsApp video with my mother and her husband. They said they had a brief spit of ten minutes of rain. I explained how we had had so much, she said we could ship it up there…would if I could.🤔😆

When we finished our conversation, we had our breakfast of Muesli and yogurt. Then we set about prepping our lunch, because we were making chili. They don’t have canned beans so we had to do a long simmer cook on dried beans. They were ready after two hours. So we fixed them up with the leftover bits and scraps of meat from yesterday, an onion, a can of whole tomatoes, tomato sauce, herbs, and salsa (also from yesterday). Then set that on a slow simmer over a water bath (because the gas burner doesn’t go low enough). This cooked as we did our Zoom connection with our church back home. It sure smelled great as we watched the service. When the service was over, we had that great chili for lunch with a good Argentine Cab. It turned out very good without chili powder! We managed to get the right herbs to get pretty close and it hit the spot on an overcast cool day! Jeff then had a small siesta and I played some games on my phone. Then we connected on a WhatsApp video with my sister. All seems to be well on her homefront and with her family.

We had a snack supper of cheese, and a banana each with a splash of Cachaca, the Brazilian drink made of sugar cane juice. Then we chatted with Jeff’s sister and her husband. They seem to be having a heat wave in California…not so good with their water issues. Anyway, we ended talking with them and pretty much ended our day.
