Living our dream,

 traveling the world!

Chilean Patagonia #10

     April 25,

We were up by 0730. It was a warmer night, but we were a bit chilled now, enough so we turned on the electric blanket, under us. Jeff made us a fire and we had great, hot showers. The world is so much better…even though it is cloudy, drizzly, rainy, and we still can not see the volcano…yada, yada, yada! Enough of that.

We had our Javas and a very light breakfast of mandarins and yogurt. I blogged, getting us caught up to today – which reminds me – Jeff figured our car mileage in Patagonia Argentina. He added into our blog of April 11th, Bariloche. He read and discovered that Brazil wants us to have a printed copy of our E-visa for entry. Really!?! What is the point of an electronic one? He pulled up the forms and copied them to a flash drive. Puerto Varas has a print shop and this was where we had seen Uncle Texas Restaurant… So we headed out around 1145. It is still drizzly, and so cloudy we can’t see the other side of the lake.

We arrived in the town, found the print shop, and had the copies made for 800 CLP, or 89 cents. The lady even put them in a sleeve. That was very nice. We loaded back up, drove to Uncle Texas Restaurant. We walked in and ordered the two person platter. This included 250 grams each of spare ribs, pulled pork, and brisket; and (larger than pint sized) sides of coleslaw and mac and cheese. I had a glass of red wine and Jeff had a Sam Adams beer. The meat was seasoned and smoked very well…to say we enjoyed the food is a gross understatement. We had not thought about BBQ for awhile. It was kismet when we drove by here yesterday on our way home! We were planning on tacos as we had bought all the fixings for them. But, Oh My, this is so much better. The atmosphere of the place could have been any BBQ place in the US. There were license plates from various states of the US. I noted there was not one from Kansas though. As we were eating the owner came by, making sure everything was okay, and he asked where we were from. When we said Kansas. He lit up, “Kansas City!” he exclaimed. He was so excited we didn’t bother to tell him we were from Wichita, not Kansas City. He said we will have to leave a Google review. We continued to eat, and then he brought us a stuffed jalapeno popper for free. It had cheese and meat samplings inside, wrapped in a thick slice of bacon. Very nicely done! We paid 57,227 CLP, or $63.94. Of course we had leftovers and got them as take-away.

We got back to our place just before it really started raining. I blogged & sewed and Jeff read. We finished our BBQ fixins for supper with a little bread and wine! Around 1830 our host’s husband came to collect payment for our stay. Most places you pay through the app, but every once in a while… Anyway, it was nice because we found out he is a pastor of five Seventh Day Adventist churches. Of course this was all through Google Translate. We ended the evening: Jeff read and I finished my sewing project finally. I miss a sewing machine. It continued to rain outside and the wind howled at times. We stayed inside, enjoying the fire and listening to music. What a blessed day!
