Koh Ngai, Thailand #32

February 17.
We got up and about. There isn't a refrigerator or even a kettle in our room… So we went downstairs to the reception /breakfast area, earlier than our normal time. They had a big brew coffee pot. Yeah for me!!! 😁😂🤣 Better yet, it tasted fine! It will do the job! Unfortunately for Jeff,😢 no hot chocolate but there's juice – he settled for that. Breakfast was set up buffet style. There's Thai rice with egg & veggies; Thai noodles with egg & veggies; sliced meat; hot dog sausages; little pancakes; sunny-side up eggs; egg omelets; various condiments, including syrup! – haven't seen that in awhile; fruits (watermelon and pineapple); and white bread for toast. There's also another table with HB eggs and salad veggies. It's quite a spread – way more than we expected. We both had small portions of most items. We neither one did the meats though – didn't look appealing. All was good tasting for buffet items.
Finished, we went to quiet spot near the restaurant area and did a video WhatsApp with my sister. It was better reception than last night's attempt with my mom – up in our room. Plus, we were able to share some sunshine and island vibes. That was good, as they are expecting more snow!😲
Then we went to get a kayak we had reserved from ten until noon. The resort allows us free usage of two hrs a day. That's cool!😎 We went out in a two man kayak. The water was so calm & clear, and a pretty emerald green-blue color. It was peaceful also, that is, until some long-tail boats came around a time or two. We went to a beach, and had it all to ourselves! Jeff called it our private beach.😉🏖️ We swam a little bit to cool off. Then we were heading back and ducked into a small cave that has water at high tide. It was just large enough that we could go all the way inside, turn around easily, and paddled back out.
That was a fun little outing. We arrived back at the resort, early for our time slot, but we were good with that. It was time to call Jeff's sister. We did a video WhatsApp with her and her husband as well. They are all well – we almost talked 90 minutes!
Now, we went to the restaurant and had a light lunch of a tuna salad on bed of slaw with a dinner roll; and some chicken satay skewers. I had a pineapple shake/icee and Jeff had a coconut one – that came in the coconut shell🥥! We finished and Jeff signed the bill for 550 Baht, which was $16.31.
The afternoon was siesta time, as sun is too brutal. Around 1630, we went out walking on a trail following the rocky beach. Then the trail opened unto the sand beach area (where we landed yesterday. We walked down the beach, checking out options for dinner; and we found a more local, kind of, a non-resort restaurant. It was called Koh Ngai Camping Restaurant – as it it is at the camping area on Koh Ngai. There were tents you could rent to stay in. Interesting🤔. Anyway, we had Thai Beef Laab – which is a dish of minced beef and chopped, spicy herbs – with a side Jasmine Rice; and a Grilled Sea Bass Fillet with a butter, garlic sauce (I asked for a second portion of sauce and we used it on the potato), with sides of “Backed” Potato, and veggies. Jeff had a large Chang beer and I had Jamaica Fever Cocktail. Nice meal😋 right in the beach, and by us choosing this place, we garnered some more business for them!😂 Dinner was 750 baht (22.26).
Walked back to our place as it was really low tide, so able stay in the beach most of the way. Only last bit was on the trail, which was good due to darkness. We were using our cell phone's flashlights. The rest of the evening was just chilling.
That sounds like a lovely time.
