Florianopolis, Brazil #44

September 19,
Up and about by 0730. I slept decently…as much as one can with a knee brace! Anyway, it was raining and the morning was cool. The heater we have is in the bedroom and it helps some with de-humidifying the whole place. But a general dampness hangs in the air inside the apartment. We set about having our Javas and breakfast of oatmeal with Nutella, PB and the last of the jam. My knee is doing quite a bit better this morning, but I’m still going to rest it. So I guess it’s okay that it was rainy.
Morning came and went, giving way to the afternoon. We went out to the grocery store and the “Teacher” Grill place. Jeff bought some great brisket, a sausage & the salsa that they have. He paid 71.79 BRL or $13.96. We took it home and had that fabulous meat with bread. So good! We had it with a Cab Sav. Then we both had a siesta. For supper we had a sliced cucumber, hummus and bread. Low key, chill, restful and rainy day.
September 20,
I had trouble falling asleep. A little was from my knee, but mostly it was one of the dogs, whining and scratching a metal door. One of the owners must have finally heard and let him inside. If the gate doesn’t get latched the dogs go into the parking area, but can’t return on their own. Anyway, I finally was able to succumb to sleep around two AM. I should not have had the nap. We readied around 0800 and had our Javas. Then we did a WhatsApp video with my mother and her husband. Tomorrow he will go for a follow-up biopsy…will be praying for him! When we finished we had a sausage link on toast with mustard and mayo for breakfast. Brazil does make sausage well…and meat in general!
We did not connect with our church brethren. They were having an outdoor picnic and service – so no Zoom today. We will get together next week. Jeff went out to see about lunch stuff. When he returned, we made another small pot of chili-type fixin’s. While our beans cooked I went down and got in some pet therapy. I will miss petting the dogs, but not the barking they do at night. Anyway, we used the beef and chicken meat from the shawarma we’d had left over from a few days ago, and odds and ends from the refrigerator. We are having our “last ofs.” Tuesday morning we leave here and Brazil. The meal was nice with a Malbec wine. Then Jeff had a siesta.
Next we had a video chat with my sister. She said the temperature has finally cooled today, ending their heat streak! Kansas has had a crazy hot summer!! Anyway, the afternoon came and went. I blogged some as Jeff read. I had a snack of crackers with cream cheese. Jeff did not want anything. Later we talked with Jeff ‘s sister and her husband. They are getting ready for a couple week vacation, so it was good to catch up. Lastly we plan on watching the Cheifs, hopefully.
