Living our dream,

 traveling the world!

Florianopolis, Brazil #35

     September 2,

I was awake by 0630! That was early for me, especially considering the lateness of our getting to bed!! Jeff said he’d just awakened at 0600. We got up and around. I finished unpacking and putting things out as we are here for three weeks. Jeff started a load of clothes, and went to the grocery store. Our apartment is on the second floor with the washers being shared ones on the main level. The place is more like a compound of 3-4 buildings. I forgot to mention that last night, Jeff had a little trouble getting into our place due to two dogs, but they had already adjusted to him this morning. Jeff said they even let him pet them. Anyway, breakfast was light, eating some of the snack items we have acquired, with our Javas. That was the morning – me taking it easy!

In the afternoon, we had lunch of a great salad mix that Jeff had found at the store, and some of the artisanal Camembert cheese with bread and a Chilean Sav. Blanc. Then I caught up on the blogs as Jeff read & planned. Later, we went to another grocery store. My knee is feeling a bunch better, even with the walking in the airport yesterday…thankfully the airports were both “smaller-ish” ones. Afternoon turned to evening. The sunset did not pan out, as there was a bank of clouds obscuring the whole of the western view. We can see the bay from our balcony and the sun sets across the water. Jeff planned this, and I appreciate this. His research and detail still amazes me. Supper was some popcorn. That was our day.

    September 3,

Happy Birthday to our oldest nephew!

Up and about, we readied, settling into our morning routine: Javas and breakfast of an egg sandwich. It has been quite awhile since I have had a proper over easy egg! It was great! sometimes the little things… Anyway, the wind is really making the waves way more apparent from our balcony. We still haven’t been to the beach yet. It is not very far. We did one more load of laundry, finally caught up with that!

Morning gave way to the afternoon, and we went out for lunch. Along the way we saw a significant landslide on the side of the road! It closed down one whole lane of traffic, causing some congestion issues. The island we are on – Santa Catarina – is fairly large, Google says, 34 miles long and 11 miles across at its widest. Anyway, Jeff had found an American style smoked BBQ place that has a couple of locations, the one we went to is in a shopping mall. It was open for lunch, and the restaurant wasn’t. The mall was a multi-level nice one. We found the food court and the place we wanted. I had a Pastrami Burger with a Coke and Jeff had a Pulled Pork Sandwich with a Schweppes. We shared an order of Pastrami Fries. The meat was excellent, a great meal! We will definitely try out the restaurant, Pit Smokehouse Floripa. (Floripa is what the locals have abbreviated the name of Florianopolis to, which I gotta say…much better.) Anyway, we finished and went to the Carrefour in this mall and got most of the rest of our list. Then we drove back to our place.

We settled in for the rest of the afternoon. The sunset was lovely and we finally went out on the beach. It’s just a bit chilly out here. We watched it go behind some distant mountains and then went back inside. We had the rest of the Camembert cheese and bread with an Uruguayan red wine for supper. Listened to some music, then called it a blessed day.
