Diamantina to Confins, Brazil #33

August 30,
We were up and about by 0730. Today was our connection day. We started as always with a WhatsApp video call to my mother and her husband, as we had our Javas. They were well…just trying to stay cool. And pretty much staying inside except for errands/appointments. Then we had breakfast – last of the Muesli, yogurt and a piece of toast each… same as yesterday but more our normal time. We settled in and watched some YouTube and saw the flooding that just happened in the Grand Canyon. Wowza…seems like lots of natural disasters going on worldwide? Questions???
At noon, we linked in on Zoom with our church brethren back home and watched the service. When we finished, we went out to the nearby grocery store. I hadn’t been here but Jeff had. We found what we wanted and went back to our place. We made a veggie penne pasta with a modified onion soup mix. We added the cream cheese we had acquired from our place in Pouso Alto. It turned out nice and we had it with a good red wine.
Then early evening, we connected with my sister. Everything was going well with her and her family. We finished our conversation; had the Champagne – that we did not have yesterday – with peanuts & chocolate; and called it a day.
August 31,
We were up and about by 0700 this morning, with today being a moving day. We readied; packed everything up; and checked out at 1100. The drive was for 4.5 hours, destination near Confins Airport north of Belo Horizonte.
We took the BR-367 to BR-259. When we arrived at Inimutaba, we stopped for gas and a 40 BRL car wash – gave him 50 BRL – which was $9.62 total. Moving on, once at Curvelo, we went onto MG-231, a toll road, which cost 10.60 BRL or $2.06. From here we turned onto BR-040, and shortly stopped at Bete, Famosa Linguica de Paraopeba (which roughly translated to “Fill, famous Paraopeba Sausage”) that had been advertising for miles. The signs had us salivating! 😆 We each had a Linguica Completo each and shared a water. While we waited for our sandwiches, we saw a bird menagerie. They had black swans, geese and other kinds of large birds in a fenced little moated pond. There was also a kiddie area of playground equipment. Our food arrived and it was great – only cost us 42.80 BRL or $8.24 total.
Then back on the road. We went onto MG-424, and arrived at our place just after 1600. We will spend one night here to catch a flight tomorrow. Jeff booked this through Booking.com – it’s been awhile since we’ve used them. It was just a hotel room, but we had a great view over a lake, and watched the sunset sky evolve. We then split an apple, plum, and pear for a snack supper and repacked stuff for flying. Lastly, we connected with Jeff’s sister on a WhatsApp video. She and her family were doing well. Bed by 2230.
