Asuncion, Paraguay #4
May 11,
Up and about by 0730. It’s just nippy in our place, so I went back under the covers while Jeff showered. The water tank/supply for our place must be small, because after one person showers we have found it wise to wait a bit – like 15-20 minutes before the next one goes in. So I was doing just that under those lovely covers! Anyway, after we got around, we had our Javas and a big portion of oatmeal, an apple and yogurt for breakfast. I’m really enjoying my Cafe da Paula, and wishing I had gotten more. It has been in the mid to upper fifties outside in the mornings so we have not been back out on our balcony. Which is shameful, but self preservation kicks in. The high was only 66 so we did not get out and about until later.
Morning turned into early afternoon. We spent the time reading, watching YouTube and planning for when we do get out and about. There is not the sense of urgency to get out and explore as we have a month here. We had a sandwich for lunch. Anyway, we did go out walking around 1600. On our wanderings we have noted that there are not many restaurants near us. Most of what we see are furniture(?) stores. What’s up with that?? Continuing on, there are the two close-by upper-end malls with their food courts, and the only real restaurants around. Questions we have in our observations. We ended our walk at the grocery store in one of the malls. We went back to our place and had leftovers: me, the stirfry and Jeff, the pasta with some baguette we just bought. We also had a Chilean Malbec. Just a day simply living, someplace else.

We were up around 0800. Today was supposed to get up to 71°! Yay!! But right now it was 59°! We showered and got about to our Javas and breakfast of granola, split an apple, and yogurt. Then we watched YouTube, read, played games…just everyday stuff until it warmed up.
Around 1300 we made lunch of an air-baked potato. Our place doesn’t have an oven but it’s equipped with an air fryer. We did not ever have one of these gadgets. So we YouTubed it. Our potatoes turned out fluffy and yummy, just like oven baked! They were great. We also had some Parrilla Queso Provolone that was pre-seasoned. We air fried this also…yummy and gooey!
Around 1600, we went out for a walkabout, heading to a nearby park to check it out. When we arrived, it was gated with entry only by an ID card or a passport!?! Well, that was a new one! We have had to pay before, but never show ID. I did not have my driver’s license so we walked around the park’s perimeter instead. We passed a pastry/bread shop called God’s Pan… Hee-hee! That’s a great name!! It looked busy, but we did not go in. We also passed a huge building that we can see from our place, and walked by its back side before. We found out it was the Instituto del Banco Central del Paraguay…Paraguay’s Central Bank. It sits on a huge 2-3 block area! Anyway, we continued on around the outside of the park. We next came upon kids practicing soccer…maybe the next Messi was there warming up! We ended and went to a local grocery store, called Biggie Express. We bought our stuff and went back. It is recommended to buy water here so we have. Jeff bought a USB powered water dispenser. We had one in SE Asia but got rid of it somewhere over there.
Supper was snack stuff: bread, pretzels, and hummus. Then we went up on the rooftop and were blessed with an extraordinary sunset. We ended our day video-chatting with Jeff’s sister.
