Living our dream,

 traveling the world!

Arequipa, Peru #10

      June 17,

We were up and about; had our Javas with brunch of PB & J. Still being full from yesterday, we delayed eating until almost 1000! But this is not a stretch for us. The “jelly” was a tart pureed raspberry “marmalade” – as per the label. But it was like just mashing raspberries without sugar! So yummy. Also the PB in Peru is closer to what we have back home – more creamy than oily, which we found more here in South America. Anyway, Jeff spent the rest of the morning researching. I played games on my phone.

Around 1230, we went out for a walkabout and lunch. I had another sewing project – replacing a zipper on a pair of Jeff’s pants. Plus our new sandals needed velcro straps shortened. To do these two tasks I required a few other things. So we were checking out an Asian; a local shop; and Dollarcity stores for these items. And found all the things, plus we found a new hat for Jeff. His hat’s brim isn’t stiff enough and a bit small. We decided on Ceviche for “lunner”, and chose Norte Cultura Cerichera. After some confusion, due to translation issues. We got takeaway… but two dishes, not one! Oh well! It cost us 40 PEN ($11.80).

We took it back and had one of the artistic ceviche dishes and the leftover Causa Limena that we brought home after our cooking class yesterday. We took our food and a Peruvian Malbec wine upstairs on the roof and enjoyed the late afternoon. Then I did some on one of my sewing projects and Jeff had a siesta. Sunset was basic. It was just a day of…simply living, someplace else.

     June 18,

I awoke at 0340, but was able to eventually go back to sleep; Jeff awoke at 0400, and could not go back to sleep – going out to the living room for more research. This disturbance of sleep may just be getting OLD?…What, you say!?! 🤭 C’est la vie! Anyway, I re-awoke at 0810, but just didn’t have the wherewithal to get up until 0840. HUMPH! So we had brunch again – our Javas and Muesli with yogurt. Jeff continued doing more research after brunch, as I watched and participated some – he did some booking.

Again, around 1230 we went out for walking and lunch. We went to lunch first, we wanted rotisserie chicken and found the place we’d seen . It was El Dorado Sazon. We ordered ½ Pollo a la Brasa (½ roasted chicken) with Papas Fritas (fries), Aguadito (soup), and Ensalada (salad fixings). It cost us 32 PEN ($9.44). It was a simple soup, but flavorful and reminded me of our previous experience – 20+ yrs ago – of set menus. After we finished, we walked to the main Plaza De Armas – not too far and to a couple of grocery stores, to find the bread we liked (we couldn’t remember which store we’d bought it at). We also found some interesting little courtyards and meandered through them- they had lots of souvenirs for sale. We checked out a couple of museums, but changed our minds and left them both before paying.

Back at our place we chilled out. Supper was a salad and some bread with some more Peruvian Malbec wine. Tata for now!
