Glorious Mauritius 8

Yesterday was a small walk along the beach to the store – to get our last two bottles of wine here in Mauritius (South African wines) and some bread. We made all our own meals, to use up some of our items: flank steak sandwiches for lunch and the chicken sauté (left over from our lunch on Friday) stir-fried with rice and a couple of eggs for supper. I did catch the gardener to see if he could get a couple of mangoes from the ginormous mango tree in the front “yard” of this place. He snagged three of them down with a pole and a one liter bottle he cut to act a bucket. Good theory but the fruit all ended up on the ground. The mangoes weren't as ripe as I had hoped. But really good flavor, just more pungent and firmer texture than sweet and soft.

Today, when we awoke we looked at each other and asked how we doing. And for the first time we both felt really good! Praise and glory be! Amen, Amen, and AMEN!!!  Well one day left – it is about time. Mauritius has been something of a conundrum — some ways mysterious, a little bit insidious, all the while being glorious!! 🙂 😉 LOL! LOL!! Kinda crazy! Anyway, we got up and about and after breakfast… we did laundry. Then we did go out to get bread and a lemon, bit of cilantro, and a chili pepper; went back and I modified/made a green mango salad. It turned out pretty decent. I used the last of our peanut butter, couple of lemons, honey and some soy for the sauce. I added the unripened fresh picked mangoes, onion, half of the chili pepper (was zingy), small bit of golden raisins & a date and topped it all with the cilantro. We put it on our bread – not to bad. We sat out on our patio and enjoyed our meal. A red whiskered bulbul came; munched on some berries; and had his lunch also. We three enjoyed our peace, time, and food! It was special for me.

For dinner we plan on a pizza for supper; attending our church back home via ZOOM; getting with family on WhatsApp and then reorganizing and packing. We will leave here tomorrow at 10am for the airport  …    to Madagascar!

Well I got to…   “Move it, Move it!”
