Transition day, India #77
March 16
I woke at 0700. Jeff was already awake. He said he only woke up twice because he had been sweating. Maybe he will finally be breaking his Delhi belly. We got around, showered, and went to breakfast at 0830. But the restaurant doors were still locked. So, we went back up, gathered our stuff, and checked out.
Out to the street, we waved down a shared tuk-tuk. The only other passenger onboard, got off shortly after our boarding. So the driver turned and asked us where to go, turning into a private ride (this saved us a step). So we went into the next town, Ramnagar, to the train station. Arriving, we discovered there wasn't breakfast here either. So we sat and ate nuts, cranberries, and raisins. We did buy a little package of chips and cookies for 30 Rupees ($0.37). Jeff said he feels like he needs calories – I know he does. Again, I'm glad he is hungry. Hopefully, today is his turnaround day.
The train arrived, so we boarded and at 1005… we left on time! Anyway, definitely can feel that we are winding up our India journey! We are feeling it. The safari was our last big hoorah! This is also our last train trip here. There was nothing of note on the train trip. The train was supposed to have arrived in Delhi at 1525, and we were… late. Not by much, though – 10 minutes only. This station is an old one and it is busy! But it is Delhi – the capitol of India and also its largest city. Anyway, Jeff hired an Uber to get us to our place. He arrived and we loaded in the car. He did not get out an help with the luggage and he actually never said one word to us. Jeff gave him the code the Uber drivers need and he set off. Okay. We arrived at a meet spot. Our place is through Airbnb. The owner and contact person met us and took us up to the place. It is a two room apartment with a galley kitchen. The bathroom is entered from the outside via the balcony. A washing machine is on the balcony also. It is all we need! It's not the nicest place by far but we have our own place to relax and contemplate our life in India these past 99 DAYS!
First things first though, we need food. After I mentioned pizza, Jeff looked up a place close to us. It was only 100 yards away! We found it and ordered a corn cheese medium pizza, and a mushroom, black olive, corn, paneer medium pizza (only about 10″ across). While we waited, a little shop next door had laundry soap. I took the soap back and sorted clothes, while Jeff finished waiting and then brought home the vittles. It was soo, sooo good. We both ate heartily, but have leftovers for breakfast. Then we did a load of clothes. There is a bit of a learning curve – we watched a You tube video of this washing machine. It is a Haier brand and it is a small, different one with a agitation side and a spinner side. There is never a dryer, so we'll use our line to dry it. Mission accomplished!!
I then did this last blog to get caught up and Jeff took a much needed relaxing lay down. He did not sleep, but read. The apartment is noisy. We will see how sleeping is. Hope for bed at ten and to see some of you tomorrow!
