Living our dream,

 traveling the world!

Tavira, Portugal

     May 20th

When we went to the bar for breakfast there two other couples right after us and at least three others after that (not everyone was from our pension.) Made for a full bar HA-HA!  After we ate, Jeff checked us out. Now the trek to our car – which we haven't seen for two days. Thankfully, it was all downhill, (2/3 of a mile) and still cool. Found our car, loaded up, and headed out. We went to a small town, Espera, and up to it's castle. It wasn't open yet, but we took in the views of the surrounding area. Went to another town, Utrera, and went to a church, Santuario de Nuestra Senora de Consolacion. The church itself was not too big but the property it was on was huge.

We arrived in Seville. Crazy, but it seems so long ago since we were here! We arrived at the airport to turn in our car. Bye to our SEAT. 🙁  We caught a bus to the train station/bus station. We have a three hour layover until our bus. I stayed with our luggage and Jeff went get us a pizza. It was Sicilian sausage, tomato, arugula, and goat cheese. He also got couple  of oranges.

At 3:25pm we got on our bus. 3:31 he backed out – only one minute late. Now we have 2.5 hour bus ride to southern part of Portugal, Tavira. But we lose an hour, so we arrive just before 5 pm. We disembark the bus, gather our luggage and literally, cross the street to our place – an “eco” guest house. We unload. Jeff had asked the lady for recommendations for food, especially fish places. She gave him three. So we set off to find them and check them out. We found them all. But only two of them opened tonight @ 7pm. (The other is a lunch place only – may check it out tomorrow.) We went to Petisqueria Belmar. All the tables had reserved. We were about ready to turn around, but the waiter (husband?) conferred with the cook (wife?) . Then he broke apart a reserved table so we could be fit in!! Oh, happy day!  I had starter of a salad, with main of tuna smothered in sauteed onions and tomatoes in an incredible sauce with side of frites. Jeff had starter of pureed/cream vegetable soup, with main of grilled swordfish fillet with side of roasted potatoes. We also had a bottle of local white wine – it was the very vineyard we passed just out of town on the bus ride in!!! It went well with dinner.

When we finished, we did tip the guy for allowing us in. (At least three couples were turned away just after us!) Also at one time during dinner I caught the cook's eye and gave her a two thumbs up – she gave back the same and mouthed, “abrigado” – thank you. Excellent fish meals. As we were waiting for the bill another couple (without reservations) wanted to come in, and the guy okayed because of us being ready to leave.:) Yeah for them.

We went back to our place and sat on the roof for the rest of the evening. Our place is by a river. It was low tide – visibly 4 to 5 feet different. We'll see what tomorrow holds.
