Saigon, Vietnam #20
September, 7
We awoke and decided to go out for breakfast to Melbourne Cafe. It's a touristy place, but I wanted to try a Vietnamese Coconut Coffee, and this place was close by & had it. We ordered – me having a Vietnamese Iced Coconut Coffee & Jeff having a Healthy Fresh Mixed Juice of apple, pineapple, mango, and ginger. We split a Bacon & Avo Bagel (bacon, avocado, red onion, cucumber, and cream cheese on a sesame bagel) with a side slaw mix, a seasoned lime half and hummus; and a three egg Omelet with bacon and mushroom, bell pepper, onion, & parmesan with a toasted piece of sourdough bread & butter. Well, that was great! It was pricey 604,000 Dong ($24.54)! The coffee was awesome- it cost 75,000 Dong ($3.05) by itself. It was topped with toasted almond slivers!! Jeff's juice was great as well (cost the same amount). We were glad we came here. It was an “upbeat, happening place & good vibe” – as so many You tubers say.
Finished we back to our place, did laundry, and watched off-and-on light rain showers. During one of those rain breaks we went for a late lunch, stopping at Jollibee. It is a Vietnamese fried chicken worldwide chain. We shared two meals: a two piece of fried chicken with fries; and a seasoned-sauce two piece fried chicken with rice, sliced veg, & bowl of (good) pumpkin soup. It cost 146,000 Dong (&5.93).
When we were done eating we went back to see the Post Office during the daytime. It was busy and we found out it is still a Post Office! Lots of tourists about – you could buy souvenirs of magnets, stamps, etc. But still very much working – you could go up to a window to send actual mail! The place inside is very open… more like a grand train station. As we started to leave, a young boy, 7-8 yrs old, approached Jeff and started to ask questions. Jeff said he was on guard, but the boy just wanted to practice English or is an extrovert… whatever the case it was refreshing. Anyway, I was glad we came here during the daytime, but when stepped out we picked up our pace as it appeared to be very close to rain – again.
Well, we did not make it – it started raining on us, so we ducked into something/anything open. It was a restaurant – bar. So Jeff had a beer and me a juice… Rainy day drinks were 122,100 Dong ($4.96). It stopped enough so we went heading back, by way of the Co-op grocery for supper stuff.
We had popcorn and sliced cucumber with wine for supper, and caught up on the first seasonal KC Chief's game.
HOW About Those…. CHIEFS!!
Yummy sounding Food. That was a cute photo of that 8 year old.
