Phu Quoc, Vietnam #16
–September 1,
Happy Birthday to my sister!!!
We awoke to howling wind and rain pelting our windows… it stayed this way most our the day. It was very gray-colored sky and water and at times hard to distinguish where the horizon was. I also had a very scratchy throat! So made for a miserable day all around. I had tea instead of my coffee. Jeff was fine and had his hot chocolate. Breakfast was Muesli and yogurt (after he went and got some). We watched some You tube but mostly just listened to Worship 24/7.
Morning came and went. Jeff went to Meet n' eat for our lunch. I had Beef Pho and Jeff had Garlic Beef with Bok Choy Stir-fry over rice. I just rested much of the afternoon. As the day progressed, I lost my voice and my throat still felt like sandpaper. Ugghhh!!
Afternoon turned to evening and the rain finely stopped around 1900. We ate supper of Banh Mi sandwiches that we made. I connected with my mother – albeit, briefly. Watched the fireworks and went to bed, exhausted.
—-September 2,
I may have been exhausted when I went to bed, but I did not sleep well due to my irritated throat. When I finally got out of bed, I felt a wee bit better. We had our Javas, and more Muesli yogurt for breakfast. As we ate and noticed sunshine… wait, what is that?? It was so bright! When we finished breakfast, the wind picked back up causing the ocean to white cap. It was the most we had seen it do since we've been here. Clouds rolled in and the sunshine was just a memory.
We did not connect with either of our sisters (mine due to her birthday and going out of town; Jeff's we assume was because of Labor Day weekend and she was out of cell phone coverage). We also realized we did not even link up with our church brethren last night.
For lunch Jeff went out to forage – my hunter/gatherer! He came back with some small chopped/ground pork and we made a stir-fry with it and red pepper and onion over rice. Our place has a rice cooker – as most South Asian places we have been in – seem to have. But without instructions it is a guessing game. It all turned out good. C'est la vie.
In the afternoon, the sun played Peek-abo off and on… before we knew it it was suppertime. Jeff went to the Night Street Food area and brought back sausages, an order of pork belly, and some bread. We had sandwiches and a small watermelon. Sometime the rain stopped and the show and fireworks happened. Happy National Vietnam Day, today starts Vietnam's 79th Year. The fireworks display was a bit more OHH and AHH because of this!
