Phayao, Thailand #19

June 9,
Up and about finally by 0730. I tossed and turned a bunch last night and kept awakening myself. We had a Javas as we talked with my sister and updated her with our lives, as she updated us with her family’s lives. They have all weathered the rains back there. Her son lives on a street that floods, but thankfully he did not have any issues. It is wild that we are here in Thailand during their rainy season, but back in US there seems to be more rain then we are experiencing. Anyway, we then had our breakfast of Muesli & yogurt, and I started blogging, Jeff read. Then it was time to talk with Jeff’s sister and her husband. They are doing well and said they ate a Nepalese place—it was great they said. We may have to check it out with them when we come back for a visit! Now we had a light lunch of cheddar cheese and bread. Then we just hung out as I finished the blogs and Jeff finalized it all.
Finally, around 1620, we were ready to really eat. We wanted to go back to So Good. As soon as we got in the car it started spitting. It has looked like it would all day long, and finally started – maybe because we had been talking of rain with our sisters – aka, jinxing ourselves. Anyway, we arrived at the restaurant just in time – the heavens unloaded as it is said! WOWZA! We sat inside, obviously and ordered. I had Stir-fried Eryngii (King Trumpet or King Oyster) Mushrooms with Minced Pork – it was more like a hearty broth soup with big pieces of mushrooms, carrots, broccoli, and green & pearl onions with ground pork. Jeff had two Northern Thai dishes: Pork Sausage, and Pork Stew. The sausage was very spicy and had ginger and lemongrass in it, so tasty good. The stew was very complex and reminded us of a mole- very cinnamon and cumin forward and rich. I had another lemon smoothie, that was not as tasty as last time, but good. Jeff had a coconut shake, as it was still before five and the whole of Thailand does not serve alcohol between 1400 to 1700. It is different and we still forget about it. As we ate we listened and watched the rain. We saw a kind of rainbow(?) at least a prism of colors in a small opening in the sky. It was like an anomaly to us, we had never witnessed it before. I’m sure it has a name… Questions??
Anyway, we went back to our place and watched a movie, some YouTube, and then turned in.
Tomorrow we move on.
