Pemuteran, Bali #7

September 15,
Up and about by 0700. We had both heard the call to prayer, but were able to go back to sleep. We readied – taking our first outdoor shower. There’s an 8 foot wall around us, but that is a very different feeling! Anyway, Jeff went to get hot water to make our Javas and he & Mady returned with a kettle. Yay! Mady and his wife Sondra(?) are super nice. She does not speak English well, so she seems reticent. We were just sitting on our patio to have our Javas when their daughter(?) served us our breakfast. This wasn’t expected- to be served on our patio area!! There was an omelet with toast; an egg with stir-fried rice; two saucer plates of fruit (watermelon, papaya and grapes); and one coffee & one tea. It was lovely except for the drinks. The coffee was instant – I drank my own. Jeff preferred his hot chocolate. So we dumped the drinks- we told them later that we would make our own.
When we finished, we loaded up into our car and did a quick drive to the beach. We did a WhatsApp video with my sister on the black sand beach! That was fun! Then we went back to our place briefly only to repeat the process with Jeff’s sister and her husband on the same black sand beach! Both our sisters seemed to enjoy us sharing our setting!
With our family updated, we decided to go to Hatten Wines Vineyard… it’s a Bali winery! We had seen it when we drove into Pemuteran Village yesterday. It had surprised us both. It was a twenty minute drive of just over eight miles. When we arrived, we weren’t for sure it was open, as we did not see anyone right off. But a man came out and we asked about a tasting. He was friendly and explained the wines. The winery was founded in 1994, and advertises… “our evergreen vines produce fruit year-round, resulting in non-vintage wines that reflect Bali’s unique tropical terroir.” The man explained that they get three grape harvests each year! He set us up for a tasting. They have three drier wines and the tasting was for three kinds. He poured the first Aga White. The man explained that they do not export and their Bali wines were meant to be drank as young wines. The white wine was crisp and involved grapes we had not heard of mixed with some we have heard of. Anyway as we were trying this one, the man pouring for us mentioned about the sweet line of wines, but we declined, until he mentioned they had a brandy. I changed, opting out of the Aga Rose for a tasting of the brandy. We were both impressed with the wine, and ready for the next pour. Jeff had the Aga Rose and I went to the Aga Red. We both still appreciated these. Our last pour I had the Pino de Bali, it was a deep tawny brandy that I tend to like; Jeff had the Aga Red. When we finished, we ended up buying a bottle of all four varieties! We decided we will be back to buy more before we leave this area!! Before we left we did take some pictures of green grapes.🍇
We left very happy and went to a place he recommended for lunch. This took us half way to back to Pemuteran. The place was Warung Pencar Seaside Restaurant. As we entered the establishment had a great sign – we don’t have WIFI-talk to each other!! 🤣👍🏻😂 We were taken to a beach, oceanside table. We ordered a Grilled Mahi-Mahi and a Grilled Tuna- both coming with French fries and a butter garlic sauce. Before we received our meals we were given free puffed crispy shrimp chips. I had carrot juice and Jeff went with coconut juice. Both fish dishes were great and we decided to be back here again as well. As we called for the bill we were given a “chocolate pudding” each, which was more like a chocolate jello. We paid the bill with a little tip 300,000 IDR, which is $18.22.
Now we went back to our place and chilled out. We had a light snack supper of some “Happytos” tortilla chips (packaging like the 70’s Doritos chips), and apricots. Really fine day!
