Mysterious Mauritius 5
September 1st
First off- Shout Out to my sister… HAPPIEST BIRTHDAY!!!
Today we have to return the car-a Nissan Micra. So sad! We had breakfast and got ready for a last tour in it. 🙁
So while we still had it, we drove to the north part of the island. We toodled along til we were hungry and stopped at beach/picnic area for lunch- a sandwich we had made and packed. The sun is shining so brightly here today and really brings out the many colors of the water! Then we drove along the east coast some just enjoying the day. This one island of Mauritius is not very big- about 61 km (38 miles) long by 45 km (28 miles) wide. (The Republic of Mauritius actually involves several more smaller islands – of which we aren't going to.) We did not circumnavigate this whole island but will be close enough (considering Jeff was not 100% for half of the time we had the car). As we cut back through the middle saw a bunch of sugar cane fields which we had missed when we did this drive the day we arrived- it was dark. Sugar cane is Mauritius' main crop. The fields are in various stages of growth, and the sun glisters the grass of the cane as it ripples in waves, beautiful. (So says this Kansas girl.)
Anyway, 230pm, we arrived back to the car return, which is at the airport on the south part of the island. We unloaded and turned keys over. Then we went over to the bus stop to do the long haul back by bus. A taxi pulled up and Jeff got a quote he was okay with. So we loaded up; back by taxi instead. This means a much shorter ride back- more pricey but you pay for convenience. We arrived back by at our place by 430. So much better- bus would probably be couple more hours.
Supper was a lamb burger & fish burger- both with fries on the beach overlooking a beautiful sunset to end a good day!
