Moroccan Living 41
August 20th
Yesterday and today are transitional days.
Yesterday we left Chefchaouen and all its glorious blue hues. But before we left we went out early and hiked up to the Spanish Mosque and all the views back through the valley and the Blue City itself. It was around 0730 to 0800. There were a few people up enjoying the view- some were already there, some joined us later. The Mosque was not open, supposedly we could go into it, but that was not what we wanted. It was just about the hike and the natural views. We departed and went back to our place for breakfast and our square pastry, msemen. Jeff had it my way with the goat cheese and honey- Yummy! Then we readied and caught taxi to bus station. Well, we had a hiccup, we were two hours early. It was a good mistake, but made for hot waiting. Bus left late also– nine minutes. The bus had A.C. but it was not coming out of the vents over our heads. This made for inadequate cooling, but at least there was some. At our stop we had our “taco” and frites again. But it was hot! 105 degrees!!! Yikes! Arrived at Fez around six pm. After some mix up with our accommodations, we went to Perla Hotel. We each drank a bunch, because we had stayed a little dehydrated for the bus ride- probably a mistake, considering how much we drank and that we both had slight headaches. After we cooled off, we decided we were hungry a bit. Jeff went back out and found some nuts with our chocolate it was enough. Showered and bed!!
Today, Jeff got us couple of yogurts and a bread, which we put our nutella on. Leisurely, we got around. We headed out into the already quickly heating up day. Glad we are heading out- It's supposed to be 110 degrees here!! So much for us missing the 100 degree days. 🙁 We catch the 1140 train to Casablanca. The train station was verrry close. It was around a block. But by the time we boarded- sweating a bunch- not buckets, maybe teacups. LOL!! 🙂 The train left only two minutes late. The configuration was different. It was just seats, not compartments. As we were going, discovered the air-conditioning was not working!! Oh boy!!! 🙁 Well, we were sweating buckets by end of train ride- 4 hours worth! Anyway, we arrived in Casablanca on time; caught a taxi; checked in to our hotel; and I hit the shower, while Jeff went and got us cold drinks. Then he hit the shower. We on time to ZOOM with our church family and catch the service back home. Then went to supper at a close Italian restaurant. We split a Caesar salad; I had lasagna; and Jeff had four cheese handmade pasta. It was good- and first Italian food in quite awhile. Finished, we went back to our apartment and caught up with family. Tomorrow will be an “earlyish” start in Casablanca.
