August 11th

Update, yesterday I did get out and about. We walked to the Carrefour, got essentials (forgot the deodorant). Took taxi back to our apartment. Lunch was our local shawarma place – Jeff told him it was our last time. The owner said he'd been there 24 yrs! He just has a couple yrs of work left. Supper was light: baguette and salad. 

Today we had the last of our Beghrir. We both enjoy this so much, but has to be spread out over a few meals. It can be filling. Then I got in a cleaning mode: did a load of washing – towels, to line dry (Jeff helped with this, since it's over the edge of the balcony. I have issues with this – being on second floor); cleaned our windows; and cleaned the bathroom. Busy bee!!! Jeff was trying to deal with internet. He was having issues… where is Al Gore when you need him?

Anyway, we finally went out and about. We went back to the Carrefour (to get the deodorant). Back to our place and cooled down. Tonight we have plans! Jeff had made reservations for us yesterday at Restaurant d'Orient et d'Ailleurs.  This is where we went for my birthday and enjoyed so much. We showered and went out to see if the restaurant continues to remain our favorite! The owner seated us and explained the suggestions. Here's what we ordered! First we're served an appetizer of a gazpacho of pureed cucumber with ginger and mint. This is so light and refreshing. Next starters: I had Essaouira hot goat cheese salad – bed of lettuce, sliced tomatoes and then sliced oranges topped with hot goat cheese and sprinkle of raisins, walnuts & almonds and side of mustard sauce; Jeff had avocado salad with poached egg – bed of lettuce, then formed tower of cubed and sliced tomatoes, cubed avocado, with the crown of tower being his poached egg and side of pesto sauce. The mains: I had Tagine of caramelized lamb with prunes and pair halves with side of couscous; Jeff had fillet of John Dory fish sitting on lime slices with saffron sauce and green olive puree with almonds and sides of potatoes, and shredded carrots. We also had a bottle of Gazelle red wine from the Moroccan winery we just went to.

So it was as excellent as we remembered. Food is definitely creative and great tasting. But Jeff has learned he does not like Saffron! It is to minerally for him (I like it). Vie la difference!! But we both agree this is our favorite place in Essaouira!!
