Moroccan Living 25
July 24th
Yesterday we went out to lunch at the rotisserie chicken place near our “old stomping grounds”, Grillade. Jeff got a quarter rotisserie chicken. I got something new – Pasticco Viande Hachee. It was ground meat (hamburger) in a gravy type sauce, then layered with french fries and topped with a bunch of melted cheese. It needed some spice or zing, but loved all the cheese. It was the most cheese we have seen on anything here. Then rest of day was mostly getting in touch with our families.
Today, we breakfast of yogurt and muesli, then went out a wee bit earlier than usual. We walked the whole crescent of the tourist part of Essaouira beach. Arrived at the other end in time for low tide and walked out to the rocky prominence (this is the only time this is accessible). About 3,200 steps to and double it to get back! So we had our 10,000 steps by one-ish when we came back to the apartment!! We cooled off then went back out for lunch. We're both on the quest for fish.
Happened onto a place we have passed many times before, but Jeff stopped to look at the menu. A guy stepped up to show us specials: Swordfish and Dorado. He had us with the Swordfish. We sat down and did something we rarely do – we ordered the same dish, the Swordfish. It was worth it!!! We were served the normal starter of olives (green and black) and a scoop of hot, pickled peppers – minced, with a baguette. Then our main. It had two fillets of Swordfish each, a basket of fries, and a serving of sauteed veggies. There were little bowls two dipping sauces, limes and decoration of dots & swirls of two more sauces [bowled sauces were a spicy version of catsup and a horseradish'y' mustard; dots were a mayo-soy sauce mix (my favorite) and swirls were a mayo-turmeric mix]. WOWZA! We definitely had great fish and a great meal.
Finished and full, we went back to our place. You guessed it siesta time! Supper will just be fruit and maybe some popcorn – it's hard to think about eating after the fine lunch we had. 🙂 Anyway, hopeful for a great sunset (my sister sent me a picture of a recent sunset back home – remembered how great they can be there.)
