Living our dream,

 traveling the world!

Moroccan Living 15

     July 5th

After a breakfast of leftover turkey burgers, we headed out. It was low tide so we went to the non-touristy, north beach. Wow! It was low-tide!! There were quite a few tide pools and we encountered something we hadn't seen yet. A black bat-winged sea slug! Pretty impressive and kind of majestic, how it flows and actually flaps 'wings' like a bat. It's about 6-7 inches long and black as can be. I really did think it was a bat at one point before I knew what it was called! Then we saw a few more, but only one per tidal pool. We walked on along the wall of outside of Medina, which at high tide is not walkable. Arrived up to the boardwalk on the far side of the Medina. The area is back to it's busy self:  tourists ambling about searching/looking for whatever they don't need; workers trying to lure anyone into a shop; scouts seeking ones for an adventure; or restauranters hoping for a hungry few. Anyway, we walked on to the port, where the historic fort is and paid to go in, up and out. You can see how the fort was a good location. There are still (albeit, replica) cannons to help you imagine. The views are good (not a great visibility day), and with it being low-tide some adventurous souls have trekked a walk out to a now linked island. We may try it later. 🙂  Also watched the fishing boats and just the port scene from the ramparts for a bit.

We meandered back through the Medina along some new routes to our place and by way of a little shopping at a convenience shop. We cooled off a bit and went back out for lunch, going back to Campana (the place across the street from us). The set menu today was a pumpkin soup with fresh toasted croutons; couscous patties with bits of onion, garlic and herbs; a phyllo roll of cheese and herbs; and a minced nut, oat, with bits of chocolate formed mini-cake dusted with a super-fine grate of coconut. So good!! We really like this place.

Finished and went back to our place – siesta time, and watched some you tube stuff. Supper was a light, French-type meal of cucumber-onion salad, bell peppers, cheese, bread and wine. Sunset happened, but was not much to see. But it is good to see and hear the ocean.
