Living our dream,

 traveling the world!

Moroccan Living 13

     July 3rd

Yesterday was all about getting in touch with family. We even ate in all of our meals.

Today was laundry and cleaning day. We did our own laundry this time. While it's certainly is nice to have someone else do it—you pay for that convenience. Here it costs about a dollar per pound of clothes you want washed. Since we have a clothes line, might as well take advantage of it. We did have to stay in while it was drying though. The apartment next to us was spray painting some wrought iron covering over the window yesterday. This is fine, looks better, BUT we are two floors up and he was spraying from his inside to outside. If he had finished painting the fixture today, our clothes would have been spotted with white!! Not an option we wanted. So we cleaned and stayed in.

Lunch was leftovers from yesterday, Thai style green curry with bell peppers, red onion, zucchini-type squash with coconut milk on rice. It was better today!  🙂   I do want to mention here the veggies we have been getting are great, very fresh. But the FRUITS – They are fantastic!! They are local; so vine ripened then picked and brought to the little street stalls.  Tomatoes, honeydew, cantaloupe, and watermelon — soo good, soo Yummy!! (For supper we had an awesome pineapple, so add that fruit!)

Around four-ish, our clothes were dry enough to bring in. Laundry now done, time to head out. To the beach!!! Dipped our tootsies in. It has been awhile since the poor toes have been in the ocean! 🙂  We were also getting our steps in. Anyway, there were a bunch more people everywhere – our street, the beach, and the Medina. (Tomorrow we will get out mid morning and test out if Essaouira is back to normal.) The beach though seemed as busy as right before the music festival. Also there were quite a few kite surfers. One guy was very talented. He would catch wind; sail out into the waves; and hit a wave just so that he became airborne. Sometimes he went up at least 20 feet! Then he'd expertly land; turn around; ride the wind and surf back to shore; and do it all over again. He was fascinating to watch! We did see him stop. Anyway, we decided to head back, so dusted, patted, swiped off the sand and went back by way of the boardwalk. I saw the windsurfer dude (do people use this name anymore, or did I just date myself?) and told him he was really good. He got a huge smile and said, “Thanks! I try my best.”

Arrived back at our place and had French type dinner: the pineapple (as above), baguette, and some blue cheese. Hope to see a great sunset (as we have very clean windows 🙂 ) to cap the day!!
