Living our dream,

 traveling the world!

Moroccan Living 12

     July 1st

Yesterday was a chill day not much happening. There were minimally more stalls opened in the Media. Slowly but surely, recovering from the Muslim holyday. Jeff says it is just an excuse for a four day weekend, but we have no idea.

Today we walked through the Medina around 11ish. More and more stalls are opening – each day brings more. But I must admit, it has been neat to see the contrast of busyness to literally nothing but the cats! We continued our walk and went to the Carrefour. We needed some essentials and wine! 🙂   Then flagged a taxi back to our place. We unloaded and decided to go by the only florist we know (near where we were for our first nine days here in Essaouira). We have settled on getting flowers for our neighbors that shared some of their 'sacrifice' with us. It was open!!! Success!

I arrived back at our place (Jeff stopped to get us lunch of a Shawarma each). I was waiting, but there was no sign of our neighbors. So I sat down; pulled out Goggle translate; and just as I started to write a card – I heard shouting. One was telling another to essentially drop the key so I can get in (know this because we have done this). I ran to the balcony and shouted “Hi…one minute?” The guy below nodded yes. I grabbed the flowers and my phone and ran down two flights of stairs. I showed him my phone with the French version of, “Thank you for sharing your special festival meal.” He nodded and took the flowers and their plate back. Hopefully, that will portray the special blessing and honor we felt with their sharing (and I'm crying as I write this, of course). Then Jeff arrived and we ate our yummy lunch! Then we vegged!

After our siesta time for more food. We made our version of Moroccan salad (it's so good) with tomato, red and yellow bell pepper, red onion, and carrots topped with lime juice, EVOO, and fresh chopped parsley/ cilantro mix; some Roquefort with some bread; and our newly acquired wine. Nice light supper!!

Good day!
