Living our dream,

 traveling the world!

Mendoza, Argentina #3

     January 20,

I didn’t fall asleep until after 0130. I was hot and had some restless legs-thing going on. I did not awaken until 0840. Jeff had been awake for a couple of hours. He said the AC turned off on its own after four hours, awakening him because he was hot. Anyway, we’ll see. We readied and had our Javas and breakfast of Muesli and yogurt. I still felt loggy – even after my coffee. That’s just not right!

Before we knew it, morning was afternoon. We went out around 1330, going by the last of the small plazas near us. It was Plaza San Martin. The center of the park/square had a statue of San Martin on a horse. San Martin is a National Hero of Argentina. According to Google… ‘he is revered as the “Father of the Nation” (Padre de la Patria)’. Google also listed him as a key in liberating Chile and Peru from Spanish control. This guy sounded busy! His remains – from Google – are in ‘a mausoleum in the Buenos Aires Cathedral.’ Also Google claims ‘his life embodies discipline, sacrifice, humility, and a profound commitment to freedom’ – that’s some awesome listed values! As well, San Martin is recognized in Argentina – ‘his death is a national holiday, honoring his life and role in Argentine and South American independence.’

We left the plaza, going to Khaosan Thai Food place. It was on our way back and close to us. We had to wait for 30 minutes to get takeout! That seemed excessive. We got back to our place ready to eat… only to discover one of the dishes was cold! We had to heat it ourselves!! That was a double whammy! The food was good. One dish was Tigre LLorando (Suea Rong Hai, which all means Crying Tiger) – beef marinated in Asian spices with rice and salad of spinach, cherry tomatoes and mushrooms. The name of this dish comes from the beef that tigers had hunted and abandoned when chased away by villagers. It was thought that the tigers cried for leaving their meat. We also had Curry Massaman with chicken, potato and cherry tomatoes. Unfortunately it may not be “worthy” enough for us to return, especially when we had to pay 57,800 ARS, $40.41 for our food and heat it!

We spent the last of the afternoon and early evening watching our Star Wars chronological sagas. Around 2100 we went back out. We wanted to see all the plazas in the night light. The best of the four plazas was the Italian one, as Dante’s Inferno display was all lit up very well. Then we returned to our place and called it a day.
