Mendoza, Argentina #12
February 4,
I had trouble going to sleep last night- after midnight at least, so I did not get out of bed until 0800. We had our Javas and breakfast of a different granola – not too sure about it – with some yogurt and split a plum. We saw our hummers and were able to identify them. It’s a Red-tailed Comet… beautiful. When we finished our entertainment and eating, we got around. Jeff processed the blog I did last night. I hung up the load of laundry to dry that Jeff put in earlier.
Then we went out, walking first to the pharmacy. But we had to go to another branch – due to their lack of having the medication I needed at the branch we were at. It wasn’t very far and we also got some motion sickness medicine for our upcoming Antarctica cruise/adventure. Then we walked to the only coffee shop that roasts their own coffee in Mendoza. The place, Fran Coffee Makers, roasts the only coffee they have. It’s Peruvian coffee beans, and called simply Peru. As we were sitting waiting for my coffee, we saw a marching demonstration going on in the street out front – don’t know what it was about. It was peaceful just chanting and waving banners. The demonstrators were accompanied by a security/police escort. Anyway, I received my coffee; I tried it; and I liked it. So we had them coarse grind me a 250ml bag. When we paid, we left and stopped at the Carrefour grocery store, getting our needed list. Then walked back to our place, by way of the mom and pop store for veggies and fruits.
We made PB & J sandwiches for lunch. Also had the last of our Gouda cheese, some Blue cheese and crackers. Then we spent some time blogging and having a siesta/relaxing afternoon. We took more time watching our hummers. My app – Merlin Bird identified another hummingbird by sound, called Sparkling Violetear, not so sure on that one. Around 1700 we made a stir-fry with the leftover steak from Sunday and salami with veggies over rice; a side salad; and a Chardonnay wine.
As we were settling in to watch some Star Wars sagas, we heard drums and chanting. It was another demonstration! We went out and got in front of the marching masses to see if we could see what it was about. It was definitely about water/Glaciers law, that much we could find through internet searching and translating some banners. There were more marchers and more security. Later we saw eight people were arrested. So it must have gotten more rowdy somewhere else in the city; because all that we saw was peaceful. Anyway, we returned to our place and watched the Mandolarian, a Star Wars series. We even made some popcorn for it.
February 5,
We were up and about by 07ish. We had both slept well. We made our Javas and breakfast of scrambled eggs with Blue cheese, red pepper, and black olives on toast. We also had a mango and a plum with our drinkable yogurt. It was a good breakfast and the weather was cool on the balcony. The clouds were stacked up so much we didn’t see any blue in the sky at all. It was supposed to be a rainy day. The hummers were busy darting about for food from the balcony above us. We have not seen them use the sugar water I made, but that is alright. What a joy to watch them dart and zoom about! Then chasing commenced between two different kinds of hummers. At one point they came within a foot of Jeff’s face!!! Wowza! That was crazy!! The one Sparling Violetear – if that’s what it is – is a bully! After that excitement, I blogged and Jeff read. It’s gonna be a laid back day as it started spitting rain.
Then, midafternoonish, the drizzle let up so we went out for lunch. Just in the time it took us to get our shoes on and get down the elevator… it started – lightly raining. So we went to the close by pizza place, El Corner – not kidding – that’s its name. We ordered an onion, olive pizza. As it cooked we went to the Carrefour Express down the block. I took our stuff back as Jeff finished waiting for the pizza. Back at our place we had the pizza. It was “lunner.” We watched some more of the Mandalorian sequels and had cornnuts and chocolate snacks.
