Living our dream,

 traveling the world!

Mae Sariang, Thailand #34

     June 27,

We were both disturbed awake around 0300. Two men were just getting into their room, and they weren't very quiet. We managed to get back to sleep some, getting up & about, around 0700. I started semblance of packing with my one hand, while Jeff used the TENS unit for two sessions! He does not like this bed, as it's a typical Asian hard bed. I on the other hand love ‘em!! We had our Javas, then around 0900 we went to breakfast. I had Chicken Pad Krapow with rice, a salad garnish and a sunnyside-up egg. Jeff had Chicken Porridge, which was actually different from the congee. It was more like a soup dish. It was definitely not his favorite, especially for breakfast. When we finished, we went up to our room and completed packing.

Around 1100, we checked out of the Ngamta Hotel and loaded up our Yaris. We are heading south to Mae Sariang, according to Google Maps it’s 160km and will take us just over 3 hours. We follow the 108, just enjoying the drive. I was always on the lookout for an elephant, but alas, my search was in vain.

Around 1200 we stopped to view Mai Sang Nam Waterfall In the Nam Tok Mai Sang Nam Forest Park. After we parked, we went by a ticket booth but nobody was in it so I think we got away with a free entry to the park. The waterfall wasn't the most spectacular but it was very enjoyable. We could see the pipes where they were taking water away from the fall area. Actually we had stopped at another waterfall just before this one and there was no water in it at all due to them taking the water. Anyway we had the fall all to ourselves. Once we got our pictures and enjoyment out of it, we left… moving on.

Our next stop was in the town of Khun Yuam. This may have been where we spent some time with Jeff's sister and her family 14 years ago. So we took our time and drove around. It was bigger than we both remembered and we could not find the landmarks that we had pictured. I think this was more disappointing for Jeff because he can remember stuff so well. Along the main road in the town, we did find a Thai-Japanese Friendship Memorial. We stopped here and checked it out. A placard here showed that Thailand and Japan entered the alliance on December 21st 1941, and that Japanese soldiers and this town of Khun Yuam had developed a friendship. A field hospital was set up at the end of World War II to help the Japanese soldiers that were injured around here and this is where this Memorial is at now. There was a museum here but we did not go into it. We loaded back up in our Yaris and headed on.

As we drove there were more waterfalls, temples, sites to see; but I kind of was bummed out. I don't know why maybe it just had to do with not seeing elephants.🙎🏻‍♀️😑🤷🏻‍♀️  We arrived in Mae Sariang, around 1430. We were a bit early for our 1500 check-in time, so we stopped for gas and found a rotisserie chicken place. We arrived at the place we had booked, only to find it open and empty. We were still about 10 minutes early so we sat in the little breakfast area, eating our chicken, when a policeman showed up. He told us – through Google Translate – that the owner had been shot!!! What?? OH MY!!!! The owner was in the hospital having surgery, and the place was closed! Of course it would be! I told the policeman we will be praying for him and we gathered up our stuff and left. I didn't know what else to say… what can you say when something like that happens! We loaded up in our Yaris and searched for another place online. We found a place, booked it, and drove there. We arrived at the Above the Sea Boutique Hotel. We checked in, unloaded our stuff. I was still a bit in shock from our previous venture but thankful to have a place to stay tonight. I hope that man is okay. We finished our meal, watched the huge koi fish the hotel has, and decided to go for a walk along the Yuam River. It was serene and peaceful. After we finished our walk, we went back, watched some YouTube, and went to bed
