Mad Tour, Day 8

October 2nd
Awoke to the sound of waves, hitting the rocks under our bungalow. Our bungalow is right on the edge of the sea when it is high tide. At low tide there is a beach between us and the sea. Pretty cool! We got around and went to breakfast, which was two kinds bread, half liter of orange juice (been awhile for fresh O.J.), and coffee/ hot chocolate.
Today is a leisure day. George was to meet us at 0930, but did not show til 0940. We walked with him down the beach toward the village. We went into a free office for National Parks that had a little exhibit area/museum. Strolling on down the beach, we then witnessed boat production: from little dugouts, to larger two masted sailboats. These are all hand made and some take up to two years to complete. The wood is bought in orders and delivered here to them. It is definitely a craft, and is still passed on generationally. The young boys make mini sailboats and helps them see what works.
George left us to go to the village for lunch. We went back to our place, took a small siesta (I grabbed some nuts as I was fading – breakfast was not enough), and the to lunch at oneish. We had ordered omelettes and potatoes – was just the right thing. The owner, Carole – it is a couple that run the place – had recommended it. After lunch was just an afternoon of relaxing, it was very welcome and needed. More people came as others had left. We witnessed the boats coming back in with their daily catch, a few fish were even delivered here – will be our supper!
George came by before dinner and stayed and ate with us. We had a aubergine starter (George had not tried eggplant before). Main was three large pieces from that large fish we saw being prepared (grilled with a soy and something glaze). Came with coconut rice, carrots and green beans with a ginger butter glaze. Dessert was crepes with a strawberry puree. We talked for a bit and headed to pack and bed.
