Kuching, Malaysia #20

August 30,
We were both awake and up at 0600, so we went walking on the beach at sunrise. There were a few other early risers up and walking the beach as we were. We walked a mile one way and then back. This is a longer beach than we realized. The sunrise was mostly blocked by clouds, but held an allure. It was cool temperature wise.
We arrived back at our place, had Javas, and ate a breakfast of oatmeal with Nutella. Then we packed up. We readied and were out of Roxy Beach Resort by 1145, sending our host a picture of the key in the lock box. (Yesterday someone was supposed to have come – but no one ever showed up – to fix the “off track” sliding door. So putting the key there is kind of pointless.) Anyway, we loaded up and began the trip back to Kuching.
We stopped in Lundu and topped up the car for 47.05 RM in gas, or $11.14. Both cars have had good gas mileage. We took the lesser road back to Kuching. It is not in as good of shape, but we persevered, as it was a change in scenery, a little bit. We unfortunately saw more palm tree plantations that interfere with wildlife habitat. We did cross a river… on a car ferry that cost us a whole Ringgit fee or 24 cents! Our timing was spot on – we were the last to load!
Next we attempted to go to Kubah National Park to check out a waterfall. But when we arrived the entry to go on the trail was closed – it closed at 1130. It was 1330 when we arrived. The park entry people said it is an hour and 45 minutes to get to the waterfall and that long of a return! OH MY!! 🤯 !!! No, we were not interested in that long of a hike. So we headed back a few hundred feet to the Matang Family Park, which was free, and had a picnic lunch of crackers with cream cheese, and a snack mix. When we finished we moved on. Locals were soaking in a pool of water here, but we weren’t interested.
At 1430 we arrived back in Kuching. We are staying in the same apartment/condo place, but this time in the Riverine Diamond Tower, as opposed to the Sapphire tower. We had a little different check in. We had to find the lockbox – among several other lockboxes – enter the code and then retrieve the keys. Thankfully the host sent videos. I found the lock box as Jeff tried to find parking. We were successful, as sometimes finding the key or way in can be a bit of a challenge. We arrived at our new 8th floor place right at 1500. Our place here is a studio but in better shape. We unloaded and settled in, did a load of laundry, and relaxed. We went to a local hawker place for supper having a Laksa Wonton soup, a Mushroom Chicken Mee, and a Grilled Pork Belly with fries and beans. We got the dishes at two different stalls as takeaway and ate them in our room. Welcome back to Kuching!
