Kuching, Malaysia #17

August 26,
Up and about at 0715, we readied and had our Javas with breakfast of Muesli and yogurt. By 0840 we were off to the dentist again. At the dentist office by 0855. Jeff went back at 0915. I read through at least three Borneo Talk magazines! One had an interesting article on Dion, The Little Bornean Birdie. Dion was only nine last month when he competed and placed second in the Dance World Cup finals. Fascinating story- look him up! Anyway I digressed.
Finally at 1225, Jeff came out. He looked good, said he felt alright, but was still numb. The bill came to 1,350 RM, or $320. That was the whole bill for the root canal, temporary crown, another x-ray, dentist bill, and some mild pain medicine for after the procedure!!! As we were leaving, Jeff explained that the root had a big pocket of decay build up under the old crown. The dentist was surprised to find it and said it should have been hurting. She gave Jeff his old crown back in a ziplock bag. Hopefully it is all fixed until we can get somewhere longer enough to get a permanent crown for him!
We arrived back at our place, just before 1300, and had a PB/Nutella sandwich on butterscotch bread. We also had some peanuts – that he was able to eat without any problems. Jeff’s numbness started wearing off. I convinced him to take a pain pill. He finally did, then had a relaxing afternoon. I read, played games, and blogged some.
Around 1715, we went out for supper. We chose Don Ricco Delicatessen, which is more a full- blown restaurant in our thinking. Anyway, it’s an Austrian/western food cuisine. We were his only customers, ordering: Lamb Shank “Tuscany Style” slow braised with Mashed Potato, Carrots & Special Sauce; Austrian 3 Layer Pork Roast with Mashed Potato, Sauerkraut & Sauce. He was probably Jeff’s age and running the place all by himself. I had a Sangria Cocktail, which he said was a Mango Sangria. Jeff had an Anchor Beer. The meal was excellent and then he talked us into a dessert – a “Pancake filled with Cream, topped with a Vanilla Sauce and Whipped Cream. Wow, wow, wow! It was a superfine meal!! As we were eating dessert a man with his young preteen daughter came in. They must have known each other because the man and the owner went outside, talked and smoked. When they came back in we were finished and paid our tab… 168 RM, which is $39.67! It was a splurge, but so worth it!!!
We walked back to our place, stopping at a local place to get ice. We have paid a different price each time we have bought ice here. Tonight was the highest price. Anyway, we made it back to our place and finished the day! Jeff’s tooth held up!! Yippee, skippy!!!
