Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
September 17,
Awoke and looked out our windows… Yep, we are in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – a long ways up! It looks further up in the sky during the day than it looked like last night. I need my coffee to deal with it!! We were here in Kuala Lumpur (KL), we think around 13 years ago(?). Anyway, we had our Java. Breakfast was raspberry yogurt; custard filled mini cakes, that were not surprisingly too sweet; and a banana each.
Now we started laundry – just normal everyday stuff, then we went down, and checked out our surroundings and the apartment complex – mostly just looking at the dryers because we have two loads of laundry . Our apartment has a washer but not a dryer and not enough places to hang stuff to dry. But did get a better look at the main lobby area here. There is a shallow flowing pool for Koi, and some green space. After we found the dryers, we went back up to our apartment. The first load finished, so hung it up. Started the second load. Then we went to check out the shopping mall. We needed cash and a SIM card for me. It's very close – like 10 minutes walking. Found out there's a Mercato grocery inside – will check that out later. We found the ATM and a phone shop for my SIM card. So successful, went back to our place, stopping first at the little mini convenience store in the main level of our apartment complex, for small things and change for the dryer.
The elevators are causing problems. Two of the four elevators for our tower/section are being repaired and we have been having waiting times of up 15 minutes for next available car! Then when you get in the car – squeezing in – the car stops on practically every floor! This does not change going up or down, as people are pushing both buttons just to get a car! It makes for long, hot, usually packed times in the elevator car!! It is a very crazy, frustrating situation. If we weren't 23 floors up, we would use the stairs (definitely, would if we were nineish floors or below).
Anyway, back in our room Jeff started planning. I attempted to put our second load of laundry in the dryer. It turned into a big ordeal!… I had to wait 12 minutes for the elevator to get down to put the laundry in the dryer, to discover I did not have enough money to get it started, but I had already put in the money in the dryer and it would not return the money! Someone offered to give me money, but he did not the right change and the little cafe attendant would not give him change!! … So I went back to the elevator to get more money in our room; waited 15 minutes for elevator; got the money; back to the elevator – another 18 minutes; and to the dryer to discover it had timed out I lost that money, but thankfully had enough this time! WOW, WOW, WOW!!! I was traumatized! The dryer was going though and I went back up to the room, waiting only 6 minutes for the elevator now! It's comical now – like a Laurel and Hardy skit!!
Jeff, meanwhile, was much more successful and got a bunch of our KL time planned out and booked, as well as, applying for our E-visas to return to Vietnam for 3 months. We both went down and collected the laundry and returned having a light lunch with toasted Coconut Bread and PB &/or Nutella. Now we relaxed until we were ready for supper, around 1700.
We went out, walking. Our host had sent us a link of close by, recommended places; so we went to one of these. It was Ah Heng Food Corner and it is Chinese. We had an order of Claypot Chicken Fried with sesame oil/sauce and mushrooms; and Signature Braised Pork. Both came with a small bowl of rice, and both were good. The chicken was better – tastier and special.
Finished we were heading back to our place and went to the Mercato Grocery Store. Bought most all of the stuff we had on our list. The store is caterering to expats – there is a bunch of imported stuff in there! Anyway, we arrived back to our place and vegged. What a day!
