Koh Tao, Thailand #23

February 7,
Today is Jeff’s Birthday!!!
I got up around 0600- I had been only awake for just over 30 minutes. Both our backs were sore from yesterday’s diving activity. The equipment with air tanks are not light. I used the TENS unit, and we both had some Tylenol equivalent medicine. That helped. Jeff had used the unit last night.
We got around having our Javas and went out for breakfast. We decided on View Point Terrace. I had a banana shake and fried eggs with ham and tomato on a toasted baguette. Jeff had an orange juice and omelet with ham, onion, and tomato. It was great. The bill was 320 plus tip = 370 Baht ($10.99).
We went back to our place and went for a swim in the pool. We overheard someone talking about the Superbowl. They were Americans! The four of them were Coloradans transplanted to Alaska. So I doubt they were for the Chiefs. I showed the womenfolk my toes – nail art. They loved it! They went on to lunch and we finished our swim. Then siesta time when we made it back to our room. Jeff used the TENS unit now. We had a light lunch crackers and PB. Our room was cleaned. I blogged; Jeff read.
At 1740 we went to Chef’s Table by Momma (Chic). Jeff had made reservations. It was a set menu by “Momma”. We were sat at a very low table – basically on the floor – on mats. Momma came, sat on the floor at our table and told us the menu she’d planned tonight. First, though she asked us if we like hot spicy or medium. We told her medium. Then she explained each dish with their Thai names and related the name equivalent in English. Then the food came out all at once.
We had a spread: Local Sashimi; Local “Chili Paste- a kind of kimchi that Thai people use as dipping sauce for veggies…a palate cleanser”; Southern Thai Fish Curry; Local Vegetable Stir-fry, which was Thai spinach in oyster sauce with small bits of meat; Deep-fried Local Fish Fillet (Cobia) with Fried Garlic; Stir-fried Pork with a Local Bean; and Local Thai rice. Oh my! It was all great and so delicious!! I had a white wine, Jeff a Thai Craft Beer. We enjoyed our meal watching sunset over the ocean. We were given dessert (after a 15 minute break) of Thai Jellies, a bowl of black, green, & clear jello bits differently flavored with small pieces of melon and ice pieces. It was light, flavorful, and cooling. It was a delightful meal!! It cost us 2,365 Baht ($70.12). Special meal for my Special Guy on his special day!!
