Living our dream,

 traveling the world!

Koh Samui, Thailand #11

     January 21,

Today we slept in a bit, as we had no agenda this morning. Finally up and about around 0700, and went for a walk on the beach. It was pleasant and cool this morning. There were a few souls out and about. We also saw two cruise ships tied up. That surprised us as we thought that there was a week break of them. Jeff looked it up – he had been off by a day. The week starts tomorrow. It was a good walk. We are still surprised at a couple of vacant properties along the beach. Was it COVID that did them in? Questions??

We arrived back at our place and had our Javas & breakfast of scrambled eggs and sourdough bread (Jeff had found an Artisan Bread maker, which we went to yesterday). The bread is really good and went well with the scrambled eggs with a touch of our homemade curry powder. I don’t know what we will do when we run out of that powder! Then we just chilled and watched the highlights of the Eagles and Rams game. Now we are all caught up with the NFL until this weekend. One major surprise– the Commanders… hmm?🤔

Around lunchtime we set out. First stop, Dark Chocolate Koh Samui. We bought two bars – one Ginger, the other Cardamon. We opted for a change from the Masala bar. We liked it, but the owner has so many other flavors. The Ginger is a must-keep-on-hand bar. 🤣 Chocolate bought we set course for pizza at Pizzeria Old School. We split a Roasted Chicken with mild curry pizza and an add-on of mushrooms. Great Thai-type pizza. I had a Coke and Jeff had a Lemon smoothie. It was a good pizza and the curry chicken topping was fantastic. There was a family four – dad with his three sons, two of whom were twins, maybe around six. It always brings a smile to face to see twins. Anyway, we finished and Jeff paid. He said it was 350 Baht ($10.35). We stopped at a 7-Eleven convenience store for some butter – this is our go to substitute for oil, since it is hard to tell what oils are what. Google translate fails a lot with these for some reason.

We scooted on back to our place now and had a siesta, watched some Youtube, and had a swim. I talked a tiny bit with the Russian lady that came in the pool with me. She and her husband are in a duplex place across the pool area from us. She said she is from Moscow. I said I had been there. She asked if I liked it. I told her not so much, but that I liked St Petersburg and the Siberian Railroad trip we did. She said she likes Moscow. But this was about all we could converse, as her English is minimal, and well, my Russian is nonexistent.

There are so many Russians here in our complex that after hearing it spoken so much I have to reorient and remember that I am in Thailand. It sounds crazy, but if we don’t get out one day, you don’t hear Thai. Thankfully, we do get out and about each day.

Anyway, afternoon gave way to evening. Jeff went out and got some water. When he came back he said there was a Crepe stand set up right outside of our place on the street. We went out and bought a banana crepe. We had a light French supper: last of our sourdough bread; a watermelon salad with feta cheese and red onion; and the banana crepe.

Finished we decided to walk the beach again and take in sunset. It was a great idea as the sunset was nice, but it really evolved afterward. It was a nice cap to the end of the day!
