Koh Mook, Thailand #37

February 24, 25, 26…
These three days – well, were pretty identical as I am laid up with a bum foot, and Jeff is figuring out what to do about a phone. But here goes…
Monday,
We woke and went down to breakfast around 0800. I had Muesli, yogurt, toast, and fruit; Jeff had the banana pancake, which was more cake and took quite a while to get. At 0845, Jeff went and got a taxi. It rained as we went to the clinic for a check up & cleaning on my foot. A new staff person – a nurse, most likely – did the cleaning and was putting on the new dressing when the doctor showed up. I almost laughed out loud, because this is usually when they showed up for me, but I would have been done and had to undo so the doc could see and then redo the dressing. It’s nice to know some things don’t change.🤭 Anyway, the doctor was pleased and said again, “I’m a good doctor.” She had said this yesterday, to reassure me before she caused me pain shooting in lidocaine to numb my wound before she irrigated and cleaned it. I had Jeff lay on me and hold my leg while she numbed me up. OUCH! Feet are so very sensitive!!! That did hurt. But it was all good today. I told the doctor, as I had yesterday that she is not a good doctor, rather an excellent doctor!! We both chuckled. When we left she said to come every day for a cleaning whilst we are here.
We went back to our place, called both of our sisters and caught them up to speed on us, as they did to us. We did also get our laundry back. Lunch was light snack of peanuts, and PB on crackers. Afternoon came and went. Jeff worked on his phone, but could not get it to even come on after a bit. So he started researching getting a new phone. For supper Jeff got us Thai food: a Green chicken curry, and Massaman chicken curry.
Tuesday,
We decided to wait and go down at 0900. The taxi we had yesterday, offered to take us back to the clinic today. It worked for us. We went down- me slowly. It is a challenge to do steps with crutches and a bad foot, if you didn’t know. Anyway, the taxi was there and we were driven the short distance there. Once we arrived the doctor greeted us. She checked out my foot. The taxi driver stayed and looked- he was curious. She explained the whole story to him. She even did my dressing and showed Jeff. She also tried to explain the barnacle/clam, ended up going through Google translate. (It was possibly a oyster shell called Crassostrea lugubris, or Black oyster, I think that was it). Anyway, she was minimally concerned about some swelling, but said we would not need to come back tomorrow. Then she gave Jeff dressing supplies and charged 900 Baht more, which is $26.70, for these other two visits and supplies. We took the taxi back to our place and paid him, 300 Baht ($8.90). Jeff told him we don’t need him tomorrow.
We both had breakfasts of omelets, ham, ‘hotdog’ sausages, toast and fruit. Anytime someone sees me they ask what happened. I relate the story, mostly so they can be aware of coral. After we finished we went back to our room. Morning and afternoon were watching YouTube. We had a snack lunch of peanuts and some bag popcorn Jeff had found. I did blog and Jeff did find a phone that should arrive at our next place, when we arrive. Supper was take out that Jeff had found at Perfect Restaurant. We had Chicken-fried Rice with Basil; and Tom Kha Gai with extra rice. Then we watched a movie.
Wednesday,
We awoke – same-same, but different… we don’t have to go to the doctor! My foot is looking fine, as in no signs of infection. Jeff cleaned it again this morning, and dressed it. We had left my foot open to air last night per doctor instructions. I decided to get around without my crutches and even did my second shower. Jeff helped me, then he went & got a 5 L water refill, to lastly get our Javas. We went down to breakfast. I went without my crutches, and did well, but slow. We both had Muesli, yogurt and mango with toast. I got a thumbs up from the staff when they saw I was without the crutches. That was nice!👏🏻 The rest of the morning was chill, of course, as I’m still not greatly mobile.
We had a snack lunch of peanuts, PB, and crackers. Afternoon gave way to evening. I don’t think it rained today. But I am stir-crazy! I want to get out and about so much… then I remember how much it takes just to hobble downstairs for breakfast. It is a conundrum.🫤 I have had way to much screen time via the phone or computer/TV.
Anyway, Jeff got his replacement band for his watch. It cost like 40 cents through Lazada, which is similar to Amazon. Then later he went out for our supper. We had a Sausage pasta with a tomato sauce; a Pad Thai with chicken; and some garlic bread. We also did start organizing stuff for packing. Tomorrow we go island hopping – me literally!!😂🤣 Hopefully, it go smoothly for my foot’s sake! Fingers crossed!!
