Living our dream,

 traveling the world!

Ko Samui, Thailand #5

January 9,

We were up and went walking on beach- the north way this time. We did not get as far this way due to a river stopping us. We probably could have swam across it. The opening was not very far. We will save that for another time. We turned around and went back to our place. We had our Javas and breakfast of Muesli & yogurt.

We decided to go out and about on our scooter. I like our scooter… I think of the song by the Beach Boys “Little Honda”. I think I just found its name. We tootled around and went to a temple grounds. A monk was inside a side temple that had a mummified body in it on display – to be worshipped??  A little too weird, for me. But the monk was nice, offered, and opened up the main temple so we could go in. It was highly painted inside with a large gold, sitting Buddha statue.

Then we loaded up, leaving, and Jeff just followed the road. We found a couple of ferry ports and went up to a great view point – sunset would be nice here. Then we stopped at another temple but we were not able to go inside as no one was around to open it.

Next, we found a lunch place, at a set up stand beside a building. We had Grilled Catfish, Sticky Rice and Papaya Salad. I had a coke and Jeff a water. The catfish was stuffed with Kaffir lime leaves, and the papaya salad was spicy. We only paid 150 Baht ($4.34). We went back at our place, and hung out. Workers were looking at the pool. One of the workers came in and cleared our bathroom sink that was backed up; and another two men brought us a bigger refrigerator – the small bar one will be picked up tomorrow, the owner told us. The owner said the workers are from Myanmar or Burma. Then the owner tried to give us a blender. We don't need, so we declined. He is very nice and accommodating. Then we swam some in the pool after they finished looking at it. Most everyone here uses the pool. The owner told us the pool is filled with mountain water- no chlorine. This explains the very cool temperature of the water, and lack of chlorine smell.

At sunset, we walked the beach back to the Think & Retro Cafe for supper. We sat and ordered Pad Se-iew Gai, which is stir fried wide noodles and Chicken, Kale and Carrot; and Massaman Kai, which was a Curry with Chicken, Peanuts, Potatoes, & Onions, and an order of rice. When we arrived it was happy hour and live music. I had Mojito, Jeff had a beer as we listened to a Thai guy singing and playing guitar to 60- 90’s rock and a couple of country tunes. The place was busy with many foreigners – all Russian from the sound of the language. Nice evening. We enjoyed it.

January 10,

I didn't sleep well, awakening off and on. When I finally got around I had an upset stomach.🤦🏻‍♀️ We had our Javas and breakfast. I attempted to fry an egg, but not used to the convection burner and scorched thin the pot we have.😤 That was not good. The toaster worked well though. I had toast and the one egg. Jeff had toast with PB and Nutella. We both also had a yogurt.

After we ate I was zapped, so unfortunately the day was a laid back one. As we were realizing this, workers came in a truck – six of them to work on the pool. There was lots of noise: Jack-hammering, Sawzalling, and pounding. Anyway, we just lounged around. Lunchtime we had cheese and bread – what my system could handle.  Afternoon came and went.

We went out for supper as I was feeling some better. We went to Mom’s Kitchen. We had French fries, Chicken Pineapple Stir-fried Rice, and Pork Hot Basil (a “Larb”). I had a water and Jeff had a mango smoothie. It was all great, and seemed to sit well with my system, but I had to get 1/2 of mine as take-away. We paid 600 Baht ($17.36). We left in a hurry as the mosquitoes 🦟🦟🦟 were swarming us. This was the first time we had experienced them in a long time!

Finished we went to get a water refill and then back to our place. We took in sunset🌅 at the beach. Then we went in and I blogged as Jeff read. Hope to get out and about tomorrow.
