Living our dream,

 traveling the world!

Hoi An, Vietnam #30

     November 12,

We had rain some of the night last night, and supposed to rain much of the rest of the day. We had expected this but it's always nice for it to be different. Up and about, having our Javas while watching the Chiefs highlights! Crazy good/scary season for them. We then went down to breakfast. I ordered Hoi An Bread (which he had to go get) – it is like a Banh M,i but with roasted chicken and a great sauce. Jeff had a Banana Pancake that the host made. We both had a watermelon juice.

Finished we went back to our room. I called and talked with my sister. We had some issues with connection problems, so did not talk as long as I would have liked. Then I blogged more as Jeff was figuring some things out that we need and where we could get them – including a real store. It rained more. We were finishing that up, when we heard someone shouting in Vietnamese – like he was calling someone. I was just about ready to go down when the yelling stopped. But our host came up, and got Jeff. So he went down. Jeff came back up with… our credit card we had ordered!!! 🙂 We got it. Yay!! We got our replacement card that had been compromised in Cat Ba. I could have done a happy dance, but I restrained myself. It worked that time – the mail delivery really worked!

Then we talked with Jeff's sister and her husband. When we finished, it was time for lunch… but still raining so we had our host order us a Ham and Mushroom Pizza. we ate it down in the dining area overlooking the pool and rain. The pizza was fuel, not that good. After we finished eating we went back up to our room. Watched some You tube and read as afternoon turned to evening… it was still raining off and on. We went out at a slight break, because we were wanting supper and a bit stir crazy. We found a convenience store and bought bread & PB. We went back and had PB & Nutella sandwiches. Bed by 2100.

November 13,

When we awoke and checked outside – still had had some rain, but saw a teensy patch of blue in the white, gray sky. It was supposed to clear up today– hopefully??? We got around, having our Javas and then to breakfast. A lady took our order not the normal man host. I had fried eggs and actual sandwich sliced bread, not a baguette. 🙁 To boot my eggs were hard cooked. Jeff had a banana pancake. The lady forgot the chocolatedrizzle, and when she realized it – Jeff was halfway though eating. She apologized bringing some chocolate syrup in a little sauce bowl. Then she brought us our watermelon juices and passion fruits. Actually glad we ordered stuff she did not have to go get – it would have been even longer. Still tasted fine.

After we ate, and back in our room, we still did not think it looked better. So we did some every day stuff. Around lunch time it was not raining and hadn't been since breakfast, we opted to get bicycles the place has for free usage. We went out on a bicycle outing! I enjoy bicycles, but you really had to be super vigilant riding a bicycle in Vietnam! Jeff lead the way to A6 Garden Smokehouse and Craft Beer.

We arrived and were lead to the back, past the smoker — sniff, sniff. Oh Yeah!! — to seating by the river. We ordered Rack of Lamb, 250g, with a choice of sauce (I chose butter with herbs), and grilled vegetables; and Smoked Beef Brisket with a BBQ sauce, and grilled vegetables. We had a bottle of South African wine, a Stellenbosch, Heritage Selection Merlot (we went to that vineyard whilst in S.A.). What a great, fantastic meal!!! Jeff misses smoking briskets! It hit our spot, and we are glad we found this place so early in our two week stay. We finished, but both wanted a bit more. We split a bowl of mac and cheese, which was nicely browned and bubbling hot. We paid 1,953,000 Dong ($77.06).

Finished we went to find stuff from our ongoing shopping list and stuff for a light supper tonight. We arrived back by 1530 and had siesta. Then I blogged as Jeff read. Supper was a French-type: salami, cheese, apple and bread, but with a bit of rum.

It was a great day. Hopefully the weather will allow to get out and explore this area of Hoi An tomorrow.
