Glorious Mauritius 7
September 22th
Much has happened in 2 days! Wednesday evening I progressively worsened, not just back. My head felt 'full'; my whole back (neck to pelvis) ached- deep bone ache, not spasming though. TENS unit was not alleviating my pain much. Finished supper (which was great – pan seared marlin, yum) then took a long hot shower. Then pretty much went to bed. At 1215 am, I awoke because I had started shivering and became enough I awakened Jeff with it. He got up; turned off the ceiling fan; and retrieved a couple of light blankets. It took a solid 30 minutes til I stopped chilling. Weirdness was, when I broke the fever – I never had an episode of drenching sweat. Also my knees were aching now. I was miserable! Finally around 0230ish was able to get back to sleep. Thursday morning, I was tired and just punked out, bed ridden again. Thursday afternoon started chilling again… so, long story short. Jeff ordered a taxi and we went to the Family Clinic. ( It doesn't open till 4pm, anyway.) I am, like, I have Dengue Fever – not that I am diagnosing, because nurses do not diagnose (that caveat was drilled to us in school)!! Anyway, very nice doctor checked me out! I do not have Dengue Fever, but rather a compilation of issues, of course. First was sinus infection (upper respiratory tract infection) – even though no stopped up nose. He said it was red and irritated and I had pain when he pushed on my face. Still, I did not see that one! Second he diagnosed – gastritis with dehydration. This is probably complication from our Dubai diarrhea issue. And, of course my back – probably sciatica, which I knew. He offered me a NSAID, and steroid shot. I reluctantly, but then readily took him up on it. So then a trip to two pharmacies (first place lacked one of the EIGHT he prescribed). Four are to start tonight with the fifth – a steroid, to start morrow since I just had the shot. The other three are as needed: two for future back issues (one being a muscle relaxant- only five doses, but yeah!), and last a cream for mosquito bites. All told, the $ damages were not too bad. The doctor even gave me a discount as a professional courtesy! Bonus! One hour after the shot I was pretty much pain free!!! Second bonus! God is so good, and that my friends is the biggest bonus! Amen!
Anyway, that was pretty much yesterday. Jeff did make a great marinated flank steak for supper paired with a nice South African Sangiovese. That ended the day better and I was still pain free. 🙂
This morning, now Friday, my back is still feeling good! I even did my back stretches (this will just have to be mandatory now.) Up and about with light breakfast (due to medicines – a bit irritating to the system). We lounged around after breakfast. Jeff needed an ibuprofen for his back, thankfully it helped. He did not need the TENS unit. We are quite the pair!
We finally went out for lunch, opting for L'Ocean Bleu. (They gave us a card awhile back – the place had just opened). We ordered: Corne Frire – basically a marinated fish (curry and spices with soy, ginger and oil) and then topped with onions and fried green chilies, served with fries and salad; and Fish and chips served with salad (and inadvertently, we also ordered a chicken sauté – we took it home – will be another meal). The Corne Frire was exceptional and it is a Mauritian dish! Finished we headed back to our place, stopping for a baguette for supper. Much better day for me!!!
We, basically only have two full days/ three nights left here in Glorious Mauritius. Thanks, as always, for all your prayers!
