Living our dream,

 traveling the world!

Glorious Mauritius 6

     September 20th

Yesterday morning was good. When I awoke, had breakfast, and got around – felt maybe 75-80% better. Yeah!!! Decided to rest a bit (being proactive) and then would go out for lunch. There were a couple of green, day geckos on the patio (so big they should be lizards). This entertained me while I relaxed. They are about 8 inches long; bright green; and have red spots on its back, as well as a red streak on its jawline. The one gecko has lost its tail – Google says it may grow back in 30 days. Crazy, huh?! Anyway time for lunch, we walked to Restaurant Indian Spice. It was open so we checked it out and liked what we saw. We ordered: Jeera Aloo – potatoes (menu included green peas, but there weren't any) cooked with minced onions and minced cashews, and a side salad; Gosht Dum Biryani – lamb cubes marinated in yogurt & spices then cooked with basmati aromatic rice. We both also did an order of naan: one garlic filled, other cheese filled. It was good, with the naan being exceptional! This was a nice way to pique our interests for India. But we both had a little too much though – stuffed a bit. The walk back helped some. We did stop and buy a baguette for supper. It was all we needed with some blue cheese! As I was finishing supper, I realized I may have overdone the pace of my walking today. But good old TENS unit to the rescue.

When I awoke today, I knew I had overdone yesterday. So again TENS unit on and then able to get up for COFFEE! A nice cup of Java, and all is right in the world! Then we had breakfast of baguette French toast. So good. Seriously, I do feel better, my back is again… 75%ish. So today I am opting to stay home and take it easy. Jeff, on the other hand, took the bus to the grocery store. We needed a bit more things to get us through the end of our time here in Mauritius.

Reflecting on our time here, I have mixed feelings. Our health a bit of an issue, but we were able to do some exploration and some of the food scene. We definitely have incorporated “island time” in our lives. As I write this, I am sitting on our patio; enjoying the rustle of palm tree leaves (fronds) and, of course, the bird calls. And it is noon so the Hindu Temple just started their jingle/tune that is played at sunrise, noon, and sunset. No geckos today though. I do like geckos despite the drama a couple of days ago, especially when they are OUTSIDE!  LOL!!!  🙂

Tonight we will do Marlin steaks that Jeff picked up at the store. Hopeful for a sunset – right now is blue sky, so fingers crossed.
