Glorious Mauritius 5
September 18th
I had another good night!! Upon awakening, I sat right up- felt so, well, normal! But after my first couple of steps, I remembered, “Oh yeah, I have a back issue.” But only to know it is well-used — a “nurse's back”, not a debilitating back. So anyway, this means I'm probably where I am going to be for the next bit, but I'm okay with this. Feeling good, almost — “groovy”. We got around for breakfast. When we were starting, I went to the sink and almost set my coffee mug on a GECKO. It moved so fast that I didn't realize what it was, but it startled me so! I screamed and jumped away! (Thankfully, this did not reaggravate my back.) Jeff came running in, to 'save the distressed damsel, my hero'! 🙂 So, the story goes… we have a very, large spider (or had? I haven't seen it for awhile) residing in our kitchen. I do not like spiders, repeating– I do N O T like spiders, and Jeff has helped calm me each time after my three – heart – stopping encounters. So yeah, my hero! Jeff came and took care of the Gecko. It had moved onto a wine glass in the sink after our meeting. His little heart was probably racing as much as mine!! So Jeff picked up the glass and put it close enough to the window, the little guy lunged out to freedom. Anyway, no spider, but I was on super alert after that. You could say 'spidey-sense'. (That was probably bad, but I like it).
So, we slounged around til lunch time, mostly because it was raining buckets at times. But I wanted to try to go out… fish was on my mind! I wanted to see if I could get to the beach and check-out another food truck. I just took my time and did just fine! YAHOO! We checked out a couple of trucks… nope and then no, not this one, but the next one- Cabane Des Fruits De Mer, this was the winner. They had “fresh-caught today” Dorado. We couldn't decide between two dishes and the guy said “get one each”. So we did, and thankfully so. First was Dorado fish cubed and simmered in a flavorful, aromatic curry sauce served with basmati rice. Second was a fillet of Dorado in a creamy, buttery garlic sauce served with French fries and lemon wedges. Our server offered us some chili sauce. We each nodded and he gave us a little side drizzle. Both dishes were so very, very tasty and fresh. We took up the server's recommendation and reviewed the place on TripAdvisor! (If memory serves, it is only the second place we've done- the other one being Restaurant d'Orient et d'Ailleurs in Morocco.)
Finished, we were heading back, but decided I wanted to try Kristen's kick-ass ice cream. Jeff even was okay with this! I chose Guava sorbet and Tamarind chili sorbet, not flavors I've ever seen before but they fit here in Mauritius. I 'chose wisely'- even wanted to do some 'kicking'! LOL! 😉 Plan a light supper. Not holding out for sunset- due to clouds.
So I'll finish here and hope for blessing for all.
