Living our dream,

Glorious Mauritius

      September 7th

I'm changing Mauritius' heading!!!!!  Sorry but it is needed. Although Mauritius still has mysteries to uncover, it has changed for me!  Beautiful, GLORIOUS Mauritius. This is probably because Jeff and I both feel better, but it's my blog and I am going to run with it. Today we went out for lunch. I actually skipped to get out of our place… to the gate… to get outside. Oh yeah, I was ready! (Praise be to God who has fearfully and wonderfully made me.)

Lunch was at Nina's- “your new meeting place to tantalize your tastebuds”.  I was ready, but a little timid because of the past few days. We had been by this place many times- it's on the way to the beach. But a worker was passing out fliers and we were a recipient of one. We studied it and decided we should try it. I went with safe and ordered chicken and noodles; Jeff had beef and noodles. Soo good!… mine had mushrooms, onions, carrots and chicken over noodles with a sweet soy sauce and toppings of fresh green onions and cilantro. Jeff's looked similar but had beef with big pieces of ginger and a more savory soy sauce. We both had a 7up (tasted like with real sugar cane how it used to be made.)  We both enjoyed and left full and gloriously happy!

Next we went to a Hindu temple(s), Maheswarnath Mandir Institute. It is (we assume) where we hear music from every sunrise and sunset. Upon arrival, it's free!! The entry drive has a ginormous Banyan Tree that shades the tomb of the man instrumental in making this place in 1891. Then as the area unfolds, there are at least half a dozen temple buildings; each one is open to all as long as you take off your shoes. I am not familiar with Hindu religious practices enough to know all the different gods they worship, but I did recognize a couple I've seen before. All the places were set up similarly. When you entered there is place of offering- albeit, incense, flowers, or food; and then the images of gods (porcelain dolls/statues) behind glass enclosures. Also there are bells to ring- don't know the significance. I rang one at the last place we were in. Jeff had donated some loose change (since there was no entry fee seemed right to do.)

Anyway, we had an interesting time and left. Now we went to the grocery store, GSR. (It is our local Dillons, kindof. The place we will be “trading at”- as Bea would say.) We acquired our stuff, checked out and back to our place. I was ready- pretty tired, I have to admit. We kicked back for downtime, a siesta- yah, yah!  We then went out for sunset at the Trou aux Birches (our beach place). It was again rewarding and glorious!

Supper was back at our place: a baguette sliced with sausage and cucumber, tomato, red onions all sliced with mustard and mojitos.  And so it ends a glorious Mauritius day!
