Living our dream,

 traveling the world!

Essaouira, Day 2

     June 6th

Awoke to roosters, cats, Seagulls, light traffic and the call to prayer. Quite an eclectic barrage of sounds. But the “chorus” of sounds was nice. I did not sleep well because too full of a stomach.  We each had a couple of the delicious cookies are hosts had given to us, for breakfast, as we still weren't hungry!

We got around and walked to the beach – a whole 10-15 minutes! The tide was out and the beach area is very shallow so there was a wide expanse of sand. The camels we saw last night were still here, or here again to plod a ride to any tourists willing to pay. There were also a few horses. The “prison” island was really in view. I found only a couple of shells, as it's not a shell beach. It was a nice walk, good weather today, partly cloudy.

We left and went to the big, not a hypermart, Carrefour. There we found an Agadir grapefruit, local nectarines and a local honeydew or cantaloupe (not sure which it is). Also a few other essentials. Jeff found the wine shop adjacent, but separate from the rest of the store. So he picked out some more different Moroccan Wine. We went ahead and took a taxi back.

Arrived back and unloaded and readied for our lunch from our hosts. (He bought it down without her so knew it was just for us and they would not be joining us, as we had hoped.)  Wow – it was a huge platter of couscous with great sauce and tender beef (like a cut of what we would call roast beef, but still had bones), with hunks of pumpkin, carrots, eggplant, potatoes, and cucumber. Then also a dish mounded with watermelon (which will have to wait til supper). So good and flavorful, but way too much for two (wish they would have eaten with us).  Hope the sunset tonight will be good.
