June 2,
First I want to give a shout out to one of our brother-in-laws:
Happiest Birthday!!!
Now, yesterday… it started as most others, but ended, well, with several bangs! We had breakfast of bacon and tomato sandwiches. Yum! Then by midmorning the sun came out so we trekked to the store. We mostly just needed essentials – not food – as we are still involved in our cooking class(es!). We did buy some sausage links for a change from bacon. Anyway, we arrived back home, unloaded and settling in, when Rosie sent a WhatsApp cancelling class. Rob the other American had to suddenly fly back home (for his restaurants we assume) and Rosie said she was not feeling well. Soo… the afternoon and day really seemed kind of a downer/wasteful. We watched some You tube and well, 'lived another day someplace else.' We made a pasta dish with our new sausage, using leftover pasta and green chilli cheese, cinnamon dressing and onion. It turned out pretty good. Readied and bed by 2200.
Then 0030, KABOOM!! One very loud thunder clap! Then a torrent of rain, lightening and more thunder. We were both very awake! I had some drops of water hit my arm, shocked me😮😲. Jeff told me to grab a towel, but it seemed to stop then. The thunder now escalated and seemed to just keep rolling, never-ending. Then the frogs started croaking in a massive almost screeching manner. It was an amazing amount of decibels to overcome the pelting-downpour of rain and all the thunder! I wished I would have had a decibel reader. Anyway, then our power went out and stayed out the rest of the night into the morning, as the rain continued the rest of the night into the morning!
Thankfully the rain did slack off finally stopping, but our power never came back on. We finally, got up around 0800, neither one of us sleeping well. So we decided to have breakfast. Our stove is gas, so we boiled water for our coffee/hot chocolate. We had Muesli and yogurt. When we finished, Jeff checked the breakers, but all seemed good. We also checked out the house and did some clean up. Jeff texted our host to get the power restored – he came and got it back on. What a crazy night. We finished the clean up now since we had lights. It was not too bad – just sweeping mostly – and we did not see any damage to the place that we could tell. When our host came he did not even look around or seem concerned. “C'est la vie!”
Rosie sent a WhatsApp. She forgot about a prior engagement and had to cancel class, again.😢 So with that news we ate a light lunch of crackers, cheese, and a red pepper. Watched some more rain and some You tube. Then had a supper of scrambled eggs with sausage links and cheese.
Then we did a WhatsApp with my mother and her husband. Next we were able to zoom link with our church back home. It is good to reconnect. Bed by 2300.
