DaLat, Vietnam #24
September 11,
Today we got up and around; having our Javas; and eating breakfast. We had Muesli and yogurt/milk. We took our time this morning because we had cloud cover and not sure if the weathermen would be correct.
Finally around 1200, we went out. We stopped at a Pharmacy on the way and picked up one of my prescription meds, some baby aspirin, and Ibuprofen. Total was 86,000 Dong ($3.50).
We next went to a recommended place (from a You tuber) for lunch. It was Com Tam Lao Tru. We walked 1.6 miles to get there. We ordered the Com Tam Lao Tru (which is Lao Tru broken rice) two ways: one was the rice with accompaniment of Suon + Bi + Cha (Ribs + Skin + Ham); the other was same but added Trung (Egg). We were also given a bowl of a clear broth – could have been bitter melon soup or seaweed soup. We were not sure which it was as it was a different – but had a kind of familiar taste that we could not place. (We did not like it as well as other broths.) The show stopper for us was the plate of goods with the broken rice. It was fantastic! (We tried it all first then “pimped up” for zingy, salty, or sweet that we wanted.) The rib meat was just the right amount of sweet, minimal, and tender. The “skin” was like a shredded floss chicken-vibe, but not much flavor. Then there was a piece of egg-like casserole. Lastly an assorted pickled side of carrots and radishes, (maybe?) and sliced cucumber. (With the second plate having addition of a hard, sunny side egg.) I had tea that was free and Jeff had a bottle of water that we used on the ice of the tea. We both enjoyed the meal. It cost us 115,000 ($4.68), but Jeff gave 120,000 dong ($4.89).
When we left we tried to find a bottle shop for the Vietnamese Coffee Rum we had on Phu Quoc, but no luck and headed back only stopping for a water and an chocolate covered stick of ice cream. This cost us 35,000 Dong ($1.43) – the ice cream was 30k of the 35k!
We arrived back at our place and just relaxed, maybe 15 minutes; and the rain finally started, but was short lived. It was Siesta time. I blogged and Jeff read. Then it was supper time and of course started raining in earnest. We just ate in – some nuts, chips, and the chocolate we sampled and bought a couple of days ago. We watched a bit of You tube then bed… still raining.
