Da Nang, Vietnam #38
November 25,
I started out badly – coughing so horribly, that I had trouble getting air exchange!! That is so frightening if you have experienced it. You definitely remember your mortality! Anyway, I survived and we got around, having our Javas. Then we watched the highlights reel of the Chiefs game. Then we went to breakfast. We saw many of the same people… this may be more a long term stay place. The buffet was much kind of the same, but different – if that makes sense. It is still more geared to Vietnamese breakfast items, but I did notice you can order a fried egg. Anyway, I mostly stuck with fruit and a croissant today. I don't recall what Jeff had.
After breakfast we back to our room. It rained hard off and on much of the morning. We were able to WhatsApp Video with our sisters, which is always good and rejuvenating in a way. When we finished updating/catching up, we ordered a Grab taxi and took off to a mall that had a large supermarket. When we arrived we noticed it had a Cinema, so we checked out the movies. There was only one we remotely recognized, but not interested in seeing. But this was a possible thing to do on a rainy day. Humph! That idea nixed, we set about to acquire our list of sundries. This supermarket is on two levels, so you buy your stuff on one level then go down to the next level via an escalator with your cart. You then check your bought items in a storage area and shop this next level. We found most things that we needed between the two levels.
Now, we needed lunch. We chose convenience and went to a place in the mall, Restaurant Pho 29, Vietnamese Pho Noodles. Jeff had the Pho Bo – Beef rice noodle soup and a beer. I had Banh Xeo – Crispy Vietnamese rice pancake and a water. They were okay… nothing to write home about, as I write about them, LOL!!! We hired a taxi back to our place, passing by the dragon bridge – that we have seen – and the big Ferris wheel, that is like the big one in London – we noticed it is a Sun World production. We arrived at Richico Hotel and unloaded thankful it was not raining at the moment. Late afternoon to evening and we tried to go to the Sauna, but it was not going! 🙁 We had a light supper of bread, PB, cheese, and wine. Bed by 2200. Hoping for a less eventful wake up tomorrow!
November 26,
Yeah! I awoke normally!!! Better yet I feel better, seeing a light at the end of this congestion tunnel?? I hope so. Jeff seems to be slightly better too. Anyway, up and around, having our Javas and then to breakfast. They had some breaded chicken and potato crisps. I know, it's fried but it was something different. I still had fruit and toast and jam. Jeff had much the same. But he went back and ordered me a sunny-side up egg! That was great. They gave him two so he had one as well.
Finished we back to our room. It has rained already – I heard it at 0430 this morning – and it started back up again. We just read. Housekeeping came so we briefly left the room as they worked. We went up to the gym. It has the best view of the ocean from inside. But the wind and white-gray, overcast sky – just does not bode well, and it is a bit depressing. We may have to come up here and work out, at least get some steps in. Back to our room, and I blogged and Jeff read.
Around 1300, we decided to go back up to the gym and do some treadmill, as the day's outlook was not improving. We got in a decent 30 minutes. I was hoping for more but the gym is not air conditioned – not even a fan. It felt like a humid sauna! But at least we did some activity, and that felt good. Going back to our room, we decided to go get some pasta for a late lunch. So we grabbed a shopping bag and went to the convenience store – a couple of building down from our hotel. We found the “fixings” we wanted and went back to our place. I showered while Jeff started prepping – only to find our burner top was not working! Jeff had looked at everything he could to get it going, but without tools… he did the next best thing and went down to the front desk. Long story short they had to replace the burner unit. We went ahead and snacked while waiting – will have the pasta later. I blogged more and Jeff read.
Around 1700 we made supper of our pesto pasta with diced red bell pepper, onion, and salami with sourdough dark rye bread and a Chilian Chardonnay. Nice way to end the evening, as it rained a bit more outside.
