Colombo, Sri Lanka #4
April 18
We started with Muesli and yogurt – a good go-to breakfast for us. It was a laid back day. Jeff worked on our budget! (So… not so laid back mentally!) As he was working, he discovered a recent, extra charge on our health insurance. What!?!🤯 He ended up spending time on the phone, and still did not get it completely resolved. But the great news is we are fairly spot-on for our first year, with our daily budget of $100/day (except for the Madagascar tour – which we had planned as a splurge. Our other “splurges” – houseboats and safaris – were what brought us up to around the $100/day goal!!) I brought in the laundry (which the machine washed for us yesterday – so glad to not have to go to a river and do🤣-, folded it, and put into our packing cubes. Which I like, it helps with organization and tidiness. Jeff is not a fan of these as much as me.)
Anyway, we did go out to the grocery store and bottle shop. As we were going back at our place, we saw a huge monitor lizard – like six feet long! – swimming in a river. Crazy big!! When we did arrive back, we had a late lunch (threeish) of pasta with our garlic mayo sauce, bacon, red onion, and yellow & red bell peppers. We had a nice white wine accompaniment for the pasta. Then we watched some You tube, as it was hot humid outside. Six pm snuck up on us, and it was not raining! So we walked briskly and lightly jogged for ten minutes to get to the ocean. We arrived just a couple of minutes before sunset. It was a nice one! It has been rare here due to the late afternoon/evening buildup of cloud cover and thunderstorms.
We went back to our place and had some corn-on-cob for dinner! It was a good change. We also had some cookies and some of a chocolate bar for dessert. It was a “simply living someplace else day”!
