Living our dream,

 traveling the world!

Chiang Mai, Thailand #8

     May 21,

We both awoke early so we went up to the exercise room, on the top floor – #16, and walked on the treadmill for 40 minutes. One of the two treadmills doesn’t incline so we traded and Jeff did the incline one today. There is a third treadmill, but it’s out of commission. (We have looked in the other exercise room of building B – it seems newer equipment, so may give it a try.) Anyway, we finished and took the stairs back down to our place on the 11th floor. We then had our breakfast of toasted walnut bread with PB. I made me an Iced coffee, Jeff just went with juice, skipping his hot chocolate. Then we watched some YouTube as morning turned to lunchtime. Jeff went to the Beef Noodle place but it was closed again. So not sure what is going on there, as it has not been open the last two times. Maybe they are on vacation?? No idea. We made sauteed fish sausage with yellow peppers and onion on naan spread with hummus. It was good!

Late afternoon we went out to check out a hospital where we can do health checkups. Jeff had researched and found the other hospitals prices online, but couldn’t get the pricing page of the one we drove the scooter to. We found the Checkup place and Jeff asked for the pricing list. They were nice and were willing to take us in now, but we were not fasting, or ready to commit yet. As soon as we left, he said they were more expensive, and so we will go to another one. So we went to a different mall to finish getting some steps. This mall is a more upscale one with high end shops in it. It is located where more expats and digital nomads live here in Chiang Mai. So we walked around and took in the shops, got our steps and left back for our place.

When we arrived we had a light supper of rest of the naan with just hummus and a red wine. Then watched another Mission Impossible.

     May 22,

Up and about to an alarm… so we get our health check ups done. We choose the Chiang Mai Ram Hospital, after Jeff’s research and reviews done by Vloggers. We left at 0715 on Baloo. We walked in at 0730, after finding the Check-up Center and parking for Baloo. The staff greeted us and took over. We were asked which plan we wanted and then proceeded. VS, height and weight were checked; and had our labs draw. (my BP was elevated, humph?!) Then we were taken to another waiting area, we saw a general doctor to get our history, oversee procedures and our care – an overview. Then we were escorted upstairs and we changed into “medical PJ’s”. We had a chest xray, an EKG, an eye exam, and an abdominal ultrasound. I also had a mammogram and breast ultrasound. Then we gave a urine sample and dressed. I went and had a pap-smear. Then we were given a snack: sandwich and a coffee or tea. Next we taken back down stairs, where each had a Dengue Fever vaccine – which we had added. Then we paid for the check up, but we were not finished. We were escorted and driven in a golf cart to the hospital where we had body mass testing and bone density scans done. Lastly, we were taken back to the Check-up Center and released. We have to come back tomorrow for our results and to confer with a GI Dr. for future colonoscopies. Whew!! It was only 1230. Amazing!

We left and decided to go to a BBQ smokehouse, called Old City Smokehouse, for lunch! Jeff had found it. When we arrived we were the only customers. I actually thought the place was closed. We were greeted and seated with a menu, of which the opening page says… ‘meats have been smoked at the corner (one of the four corners of the ancient wall of Chiang Mai dating back from 1296 AD) for more than 725 years.’ WOOHOO!! We ordered two main entrees:
Smoked Duck Breast – described as lightly smoked using Longan wood and glazed to finish with maple syrup – with a mild sweet BBQ sauce, french fries and coleslaw; and Big Brisket – described as a 250 gm brisket cut with the right seasoning rub, a low fire and a touch of smoke – with mustard BBQ sauce, smoked beans ‘n bacon, and Caesar salad. I had a glass of red wine and a diet Coke, Jeff had a Schweppes ginger ale and water. It was great!.. (and much needed as the snack sandwich at the clinic was good but very light). We paid 978 THB, which was $29.80.

After we finished we went to the mall we have gone to many times to finish getting steps and then to get some stuff at the grocery store. We then returned to our condo and relaxed. For supper we had rosemary bread and hummus. Then we watched the last Mission Impossible.
