Living our dream,

 traveling the world!

Cameron Highlands, Malaysia #5

     September 22,

This morning when we awoke we were both bundled in our comforter. I don't know what temperature it was outside, but in here it is chilly! We finally got out of bed and had to put on some real clothes with our robes over them to get warm. Having our Javas helped warm us a bit from the inside. We had breakfast of skillet heated coconut bread with PB. We don't have a toaster, and we also found out we don't have a gas tank for the burners! Definitely “light cooking”! Ha- Ha!! We did find a electric hot plate – that will how we will have to cook- I mean, light cook for food.

When we got out and about we started the trek downhill to the main street, realizing we needed to shed a layer of clothes. (We had double layered because of how cold inside of our place it is, but it is nice outside. Go figure!!) Now we head out to a Bee Farm. When we arrived, we were directed to the downstairs, past many honey selling and sovenior stands, of course. But entry was free. We also pass by some information placards of bees in general and of honey bees here in SE Asia. Then we come to a garden of flowers where the bees come and go getting pollen. There are bee hives set up right here throughout the garden. All throughout the garden we pass by caricature-human sized bees for photo ops. We finish and go back up to the honey stalls, we came for honey anyway. So entry was free but we bought 7.50 MYR ($1.78) worth of honey sampler sticks (lime, ginger, and strawberry flavored) and a very small jar of strawberry jam. (This area seems to be known for strawberries as well as tea and honey.)

Next we hiked to a Butterfly Garden. It costs 15 MYR ($3.57) each. It was not near as impressive as the one in KL and some of the butterflies were lying on the ground dead or it is just not hot enough for them yet. This place did have the glass cages of various insects, beetles, snakes and scorpians, but it also had animals – alpacas, rabbits, guinea pigs, even two wallabees; more flowers and lots of cactus & succulents. We finished and bought a bottle of water, helping support the locals.

Now we went to a Pick Your Own Strawberry place, but they were very proud of them — expensive! We opted out. As we were leaving though a young man with a veggie stand outside of the entry offered us a slice of sweet raw corn to nibble. He was a salesman, but really raw corn on the cob. We were so very surprised and overwhelmed, knowing full well we would have to buy some. We still had exploring to do and first now was lunch. We found Restoran Prima Maju. It was a buffet, but looked great. One of the men explained all the dishes to us and we were given a plate of rice. Then we got to pick what we wanted. I went with three small samples of different (one curry, one gravy- but its like dry rub, and one fried) chicken preparations, cabbage sautee, and some stewed “pumpkin”. Jeff went with a small bowl of curried mutton and a whole small, but heavy coated in wet rub fish and the sautee cabbage. Great meal. It was 41 MYR ($9.76) total with another bottle of water.

Finished with lunch, we decided we were ready to head back. First we did stop and buy some of that sweet corn on the cob – it will be dinner and at least one more meal as it is 6 pieces. We also looked at the oranges – the young man gave us a sample of those too. He knows how to get you hooked. The oranges we thought were a small grapefruit because had more pink red inside, but it was an orange. We bought six of those as well. This was plenty so we left before he coaxed us into something else – Hee Hee!

We made two more stops before we went back to our place. We found a place that was selling individual eggs- we got six and another place that had butter and coconut milk for french toast in the morning. Yeah!! Now back up the hill to our place. It's actually the highest condo in the Cameron Highlands.

Back at our place we cooled down quickly – it is surprising how cool our apartment is. We took siestas. I caught up on the blogs and Jeff read. We watched a bit of You tube. Our place does not have Wifi so I am hotspotting for internet usage. We cooked three ears of the sweet, sweet corn. I think it is the sweetest ears I remember having!! Amazing! We also put some salted butter on it. Wowza!!

Plan on talking to my mother and seeing church brethren back home. Enjoying Cameron Highlands!!!

Are you going to visit Singapore? GCI has a church there. It would be an unique opportunity for you and them.
