Bangkok- Foodie Fun #9

      July 19,

We were up and about, by 0730. Had our coffee/hot chocolate and ate a yogurt each. By 0920-ish we went out in search of a great foodie place. We are heading to China Town, Bangkok! We got on the Sky Train and Subway and made our way. It is another place from The Roaming Cook, You tuber. We arrived at 1035.

Urai Braised Goose, it is called. The place opens at 1000, according to Google – and its only open for 3hrs only! When we arrived the place was hopping. There was an empty table so we snagged it, after I asked a table of four if it was open. One of them, a lady said to get a number. So Jeff got that. We were #23. No idea where that is in relationship to the number being served. So we just waited. At 1045, I saw a sold out sign go up where the bowl of laminated numbers were! Yikes!! Jeff said don't worry. One of the waitresses was looking around, I held up our number. She saw it and moved on. Jeff then said relax. But I couldn't. I could see the cooked geese and the head guy cutting them. I was salivating, well almost anyway! Finally, the waitress came to us with a menu! Yeah!! Their are three items on there: goose- in various portion sizes, rice, and soup. We just wanted the goose- medium sized portion, that will feed two to three people, supposedly. She took back the menu and left. Then I saw more cooked whole geese come out and the sold out sign go down. HUH! Questions!?1 But then I forgot about all that as our order started arriving!

First we had two little bowls of sauces: one was a minced garlic – Chinese vinegar sauce(?), other a soy sauce of some sort(?). Next came the platter of sliced goose meat in a sauce topped with fresh coriander (cilantro)! The meat was so tender… moist/juicy… flavorful! Then when you dipped it in the sauces – SHAZAM! Spectacular! Next Level! We both enjoyed it immensely! There was also some tofu(?) under the meat that I did not care for as well. As we were getting close to the end we did ask for one rice to for soaking up all that flavorful sauce left on the platter! WOW! That was the best goose dish I have ever had – I can recall twice before, if memory serves me correctly!😋🤯😋

The total price was 420 Baht ($11.57). Another level of price but it was worth it! I am going to add here that you can bring your own water or soda to most places. This seems to be the normal. We had our own water. They did serve us a pitcher of tea (we did not drink it). Anyway, we left more satisfied! WOWZA!

We next went to another place, as we were still a bit hungry. But this place was not open and I thought didn't look like it had been open for some time. This was okay though, after our fine eating experience we had just had! So we were figuring out what to do and had noticed a slight rain. Deciding to head back, we caught the BTS. As we were going Jeff said how about a Thai Massage? Well… YEAH! He had researched a place close by us that he had been seeing. We arrived at the stop before ours and found a different place (The one he remembered must have been closed. When they close they pull down gate you can not tell what shop was what – unless you have been here a longer while.) Anyway, it was Le Salon Massage and Spa/Le Salon De Beauté by Jenny.

We went for a one hour Thai Massage. They gave us a change of clothes and set about pummeling us. It was fantastic! A full body massage: tugging and pulling, stretching and bending, & hitting and pushing. Many times the masseuse used all their weight! It was amazing as sore spots went away and places of soreness, I did not know I had reared up and went away. I even felt muscles I had forgotten existed make their presence know. When the lady finished – I was a tingly, but kind of numb; and feeling great mess! It was awesome. I'd never had a “massage” like this before. It was a conundrum of feeling! Next they left us to get dressed and served us tea.

Now Jeff paid. They wanted 250 baht ($6.88) each, only 500 Baht total! Jeff had read the masseuses hardly make any money, and he was so impressed – He doubled the amount. Hopefully, they get the tip! We told them we will be back next week. The owner Jenny came over; we got a card; and were told to call for the appointment. We will do a full 90 minute massage next week!

We walked back to our place and on the way, the street vendor guy was out. We stopped and had a look. He had a different soup. When I asked what it was, well he said the Thai name. I opened Google translate and he spoke calling it, “Kaeng Liang,” which translated to 'spicy mixed vegetable soup'. We also picked up a spaghetti noodle with grilled chicken. These will be later light meals.

Back at our place by 1350, we cooled down; and then around 1500, we went for a swim. Around 1530 we had the chicken dish plus hummus and crackers.

Around 1800 we heated the soup and… did not like it.  So Jeff went to the 7-eleven, to a vendor outside there and bought some cubed chicken on a stick X4. We ate that instead with a sliced tomato, cucumber, and some toasted garlic bread sticks, that were sweet. They were different – weird, but they worked. Then we watched some You tube and I blogged as Jeff read. What a glorious day for the senses!
