Living our dream,

 traveling the world!

Bangkok- Foodie Fun #8

      July 18,

Today was supposed to be rainy all day. So we had not made plans as such. We got about with our coffee/hot chocolate. We sliced up two apples and had them with peanut butter for breakfast. I'm going to say here how surprised I am that we can still find peanut butter. Anyway, at 1000 I had a haircut appointment, so I did it and went for a haircut. I had a basic trim in front, but probably had 5 inches cut from the back, no shampoo or styling involved. I find I am always wearing my hair up, anyway so… why not, go big! It still ended up being shoulder length. It only cost 150 Baht ($4.17), but I tipped her for total 180 Baht ($5 -even). Crazy price!

We noticed, again, you just can not count on weather people! No rain was happening… So we headed out. Of course, now it started to rain. We ducked under the awning of the BTS's up escalator and boarded – instead of walking and getting our steps. It really rained while we were going to a mall. Thankfully, we were on the sky train. So the weather people have a reprieve! 😂 They were right today.

We arrived at the mall and first went to the really Big C. This is similar to a Supercenter Walmart, but instead of being sprawled out, it is on three floors. We bought our stuff and went to lunch in this mall's food court. Something different here in Thailand at a food court – you prepay money for food credit on a card they supply you with. This way the shops don't have to deal with currency. It's not a bad idea, I guess. They still deal with the cards? Is this better? I don't know🤔.  It seems to work here. And if you put too much on the card, you get a refund when you turn it back in. Questions?

Anyway, we walked all around to see what we wanted, and get a rough estimate for the card. Jeff got the card and we had Chicken Massaman Curry, and Tom Kha Kai (which seems to be the same as Tom Kha Gai, according to Google); and two sides rice. As we were eating, we both realized it is our first curry in Thailand! We both love Massaman Curry and this one was good enough, not great. The soup was actually lukewarm so that dinged it, but the flavor was good, again – not great. But they were almost comfort food, so sometimes this is okay. Lunch cost us 150 Baht ($4.17). That was the same price as my haircut – pre-tip!

Now we went back and just relaxed as it was raining some more off and on. No swimming today. I did this blog. Plan on French dinner of cheese, salami, bread and wine. Hopefully get out for another real food tour tomorrow.
