Bangkok- Foodie Fun #21

August 6,

Today, readied and went out for breakfast! We caught our apartment complex shuttle at 0815. Then on the BTS to our stop. We then walked to our eateries. First, we went to a Roti place, called Rotee Mataba. We had been here before but the owner lady was closing down that time, which was 1330. So we missed out then, but not today!

It was 0900 this time. The owner lady had just opened, but already had a small queue. When it was our turn, we stepped up and ordered two rotis: one was savoury – loaded with chicken curry salad, and the other one sweet – loaded with fresh banana and topped with chocolate syrup. The lady took our order but her two helpers implemented the order… like a chef/ sous chef process! Anyway, one guy slapped/flattened out the roti as the other did the grill work. It was fascinating to watch the process.

We took our take-away rotis and decided to eat the sweet banana-chocolate one now, saving the chicken one for a later meal today. We ate it at the bench area by the university track area. This was the same area we ate at last Tuesday. The roti was still hot and very tasty! Nicely crisped up on the outside and soft inside with the sliced warm banana.

Now we went back to the Pratu Fried Chicken place. The same two young ladies were at the were “manning” the food booth. They definitely recognized us, smiled and welcomed us! These kind of beautiful welcomes just give you warm fuzzies!! Just saying! Anyway, we ordered a large and a small crispy chicken with rice. We paid and went back to a bench – eating the large chicken with the papaya vinegar sauce on it. So good! The chicken is crispy fried exteroir with the breast meat interior so tender. It is served on bed of rice with that tangy vinegar and seasoned papaya. Yum!

We now trek over – 1.5 miles – to get me some more coffee at Phil's. We arrived and were able to have some coffee ground right away. So now coffee and rest of food in hand we walk to the closest BTS stop and get aboard for our last time. We arrived at our stop in time to catch the 1030 shuttle to our place.

Arriving at our place by 1040, we cooled off a bit. What a morning! Now we called Jeff's sister and talked with her and her husband. When we finished we went to the pool for our last swim here. Jeff then did a WhatsApp message with our host, making sure what to do with the key card.

Around 1330 we had lunch – the chicken roti. It was super and just the right amount of food for us with the baggie side of cucumber and onion salad. Jeff then started a load of laundry. I caught up the Blogs – realizing I was three days behind! Yikes!!! We started the process of packing when the laundry finished.

Around 1800 we had supper – the small crispy chicken on rice (we had bought this morning); a cucumber; and our last yogurts. We will then pack all up and bed early, as we have to be leaving around 0545 in the morning to get to the airport for a 0920 flight.

Last night in Bangkok, Thailand and ending the Foodie Fun Venture.
