Bangkok- Foodie Fun #16
—July 29,
Started with coffee/ hot chocolate and talking with my sister. Breakfast was Cinnamon Toast! We haven't made this for quite some time and it was great!😋 Sometimes simple, comfort food is awesome. Then we talked with Jeff's sister.
We went out for lunch. We opted for a 'date venture'– pizza and a movie. We decided to walk there, 2 km (1.2 miles). The pizza place was The Pizza Company. Simple name, but but it works! We ordered a set meal: a small Mighty Meat Pizza; a small Baked Macaroni and Cheese with BBQ (grilled) Chicken; a 4 piece set of Korean Chicken Wings; and a small order of Onion Rings. The meal was good and too filling- a lot of carbs! It cost 399 Baht ($11.09). Finished, we walked another 0.4 km (two tenths of a mile) to Century The Movie Plaza. Here we bought tickets for Twisters. We paid a bit extra for a leather sofa/ love seat, total 500 Baht ($13.90) for us both. So with the spurge seating it was a little pricey, keep in mind, I don't know how much movie tickets go for in the States now. The last movie we had gone to before this one was in Feb. 2023 – just before we started our traveling. I don't remember how much we spent then. Anyway, the movie was as good as I remembered the original Twister to have been. At the end I wanted to shout out I was from very near where that movie took place, but I restrained myself🤭!
After the movie we walked the 2.4km (1.4 miles) to our place, at a quick pace because it looked to unload rain anytime. Although, we did stop at a couple of markets on the way, for supper items. We made it back before the heavens opened up, thankfully. But we had our umbrella in case!!! We “never leave home without it,” now! We had a very light supper of a sausage with pickled ginger, and a bun with pork floss and another bun with maybe sweet tuna(?) that we had picked up. The sausage was great, but the buns were not the good… too, over-the-top sweet!
But overall a great date day!
—-July 30,
Up and around, had breakfast of mango with sticky rice. It was great- better quality than we had before and it was 50 Baht ($1.39)! The one we had before was 300 Baht ($8.29)!!!🤯🤯😮 That shows the pricing differences in touristy areas versus local areas! We were so ripped off at the first place!! CRAZY! Anyway, after breakfast we figured out where we would go for lunch today and did a quick swim. There was another couple who were there – but they were foreigners like us. After our swim, we went back to our room and readied. We heard some commotion outside on the street. There had been a delivery box truck stuck on our road. They finally got it free, with the Excavator Machine!
Anyway, we went out. We caught our shuttle (which now parks down the street at the 7-eleven. Smart!) We went up to the BTS Sky train and took it toward where we were going for lunch. This street stand place is a recommendation of the Roaming Cook again. It's called, Pratu Fried Chicken with Rice. Two young ladies, took our order of one Fried Chicken and one Fried Pork, both over rice. We also added one soft-boiled duck egg.
We got our order as take-away, as there aren't really any set up tables here. We are right near a university's track and there were benches. So we sat on a bench and proceeded to garnish up our dishes. You are given a Papaya Vinegar sauce and another Chilli-type sauce. The latter sauce looked dangerous, but was not. Actually the papaya one was spicier and better flavor for our tastes. Both the chicken and the pork were crispy and good, but we thought the chicken had more flavor. The meat – while being crispy outside – was tender and moist inside. Both dishes were also topped with crispy garlic, and with the sauce, humm, so…so good! We relished our meal, sitting on a park bench! It only cost 90 Baht ($2.50).
After we finished, I went back to get a picture of the food stand (because I realized I'd forgotten to get one). That was when I saw the cookie shop – that was also in the recommendation video. I convinced Jeff to come back and we bought a dark chocolate cookie – it cost 80 Baht ($2.22), almost as much as our lunch meals. It was worth it! So gooey and great dark chocolate! After we ate our cookie we tried to find the Roti stand from the same Roaming Cook vlog. It was in a little food market area, but the owner of the stand was packing up – she was all sold out. Good for her but sad for us😢! We were going to have the roti for supper. Oh well! Change of plans we went to the Foodland supermarket we had been to once before and got stuff for light supper and breakfast tomorrow. Now loaded down we went on the Sky train and back to our apartment.
We cooled off and I wrote this blog. Jeff read and planned. More good Foodie Fun ventures in Bangkok!
