Living our dream,

 traveling the world!

Bangkok- Foodie Fun #15

—July 27,

We awoke to light rain. So we had breakfast in, our coffee/hot chocolate, yogurt, an orange each, and crackers with peanut butter. We had a bit of a break , as we went for a swim. Just as we finished it started raining again, so we had lunch in. We had another ramen- type noodles and some pickled mango. It kept raining… so much for best made plans.

Finally, the rain stopped and seemed to be done for awhile. For supper, we decided on a very local “pub-type” place. It is called, Slow Bur Fast Beer. We walked there. The way out of the apartment complex walking is quite an obstacle course now! At the pub, we both had a large hamburger and fries. I had a Coke and Jeff had a beer. Always nice to have a good hamburger and fries! While we were eating… it started to rain and then it was pouring, and pouring, and pouring. We did not bring our umbrella.😕 Now isn't that just silly!!!

We finished and stuck around the restaurant hoping it would stop. No luck, but the rain did slow down. Unfortunately, it had rained so much the “streams” of water along the edges of the street were now meeting in the middle of the street some — the street was a shallow, slow-moving, course of water. We just went out. I tried to stay in the middle of the road when traffic was none existent, due to the road being torn up some from the construction. The water was ankle deep and you can not see the divot places the construction (destruction) has caused. Then the pavement ended and the last 50 feet or so was just sheer mud. Thankfully it was packed down so it was not muck-mud. I was not 'singing in the rain'🤭 though. We made it to our place in one piece and no slip-ups! So I guess this was our ADVENTURE!🤣😂

It rained much of the night, and a very small bit of thunderstorm as we were going to bed last night. Our street out of the apartment complex is a disaster area! So much water and it is still lightly raining. We got around having our breakfast coffee/hot chocolate, yogurt, and last of our peanut butter with ritz crackers. The rain did stop. So we decided to go to the church we had gone to last week. The shuttle tram is still able to get out. Yeah! So we caught the 1000 shuttle to the BTS.

We arrived at the ECB- Evangelical Church of Bangkok around 1040. We passed the same Virginian family that we had talked with last week. That surprised me because of how many people are here. We also saw the Pakistani family, and we said hi talking to them a little. We figured/hoped we would see them again. Now we went into the service, found a couple of seats – not right up front, but close. The service was run the same, but there was a different praise and worship group and a different pastor spoke. The sermon was on the same subject – the seven I AM statements that Jesus made- this one that Jesus is the “I AM… the Light of the World.” It was another great service.🙏🎵⛪.

After we left, we stopped at an Esaan Restaurant. (Esaan is a region in Thailand, and the food is different.) The place was called Esaan Nation Kitchen. It was not on our radar from the You tubers we watch. But rather, it was on our way, it looked appealing and we wanted to try an Esaan place. We had a homemade Lemonade, a Spiced Ice Tea for drinks. Then our food: a Corn Salad– so zingy, spicy; an order of Grilled Esaan Sausage with some veggie accompaniments (and little hot chillies, which we did not eat. Jeff tried an itsy bitsy nibble of a chilli! “OH, MY!” he said) — great sausage flavor, though; and also, an order of Pad Thai with Shrimp– it was too sweet, but better with a squeeze of lime, and the shrimp were amazing. I had a couple to test my NON-allergy. It was a good lunch and we were glad we stopped here. We love Thai food – have I mentioned this??🤭🤣

Next, we went to a different supermarket, Foodland. We bought some dinner and breakfast stuff. Then to the BTS and timed it so we could catch the shuttle tram back to our place. This meant we went on the sky train a couple of stops past our stop and just looked out over Bangkok. It was nice to see new terrain. Also the cars emptied out and it looked like a mirrored image dancing down the length of the four cars. It was like a director, cinematographer set it up. Pretty cool! Anyway, we caught the next sky train back those couple of stops to ours. The shuttle for our place arrived on time, and we flagged him down getting on it. As we neared our place, we noticed the “pond” has mostly gone from our street. Jeff noticed piles of sand, so the workers have been busy.

In our building, we picked up our package – should be close to the last one we have ordered here. We unloaded in our apartment and changed into our swimsuits, since it was not raining. We got in a good swim, not seeing anyone, until we were out. Then a group of five young adults showed up, but only three got in. At least others seem to use the pool on the weekends!

Plan on a light supper of bread, pepperoni and cheese, with maybe some wine. Hope to talk with my mom an see some of our church brethren back home. TA-TA!!
